| I have no atrophy on any of my horses, and don't start using martins till their 5 yr old or older, I will go a little big when I start and shim so I haven't had to move up.
I had one 5 yr old fitted to an 11 flat gullet, and she hasn't moved
A 7 yr old fitted to a 10 gullet, I she hasn't moved either.
I have a 5 yr old who is in a 10 flat and I need to shim ATM but guessing by the end of the year I won't be shimming.
For my young colts, I have a few saddles I move them through while they are growing so I don't get atrophy |

Location: North Dakota | Wow I couldn't imagine my horse getting to a 10"+ gullet. His back is already pretty well muscled but fits an 8" martin. |

Location: TN | My horse started in an 8" and he had quite a bit of atrophy. After switching pads and shims as he filled in 3 years later I went to a 10" but it has too much rock so I know have a 10.5" gullet flat bar ordered. |

Katie, I just noticed the seats are different from 2014 and 2015.
The 2015 seats are not as deep, sort of a cross between the fx3 and the original crown c seat.
I absolutely hated my 2015 tree, so I sent it back for them to put a 2014 tree in, should get it back in 4 weeks
So if you liked the original seats you may want to call them

Have you ridden in both the FX3 and the Crown C? I'm still not sure which I would prefer just by looking on their website. I ride very upright with my legs right underneath me in a classic ear-hip-heel alignment. That's how I like it and I don't plan on changing! |

No I haven't rode in a fx3, I am a forward rider, but I like my but to be deep in the saddle, my new saddle as soon as I put weight on my stirrups, my but slid out the back of the saddle.
If you are thinking of buying one, do the trial program that Martin offers, and make sure you look at the date of manufacture. If you like the saddle you try out, find a used one in the same year, or custom order one with the serial number of the one you liked.
The great thing about Martin, is their customer service, I called them explained my situation, sent pictures, and they are replacing my tree with the tree I want for free.
They still believe in customer satisfaction

I think you would like the fx3 the best, however, I think you should go see Jackie at Leanin Pole in Killdeer with your horse to see what you like for sure! |

BTW, no he did not go up in size. The entire time I have owned the saddle, it fit in his back. His shoulder does fill in some when he is fit, but I just use one shim now instead of both.
The martin rep I spoke with said that younger horses often go up in size, but aged horses (mine is in his late teens) rarely go up in size. I'm sure that is not true for every horse, but that is what she told me. :)
Personally, I like the Crown C. I have not tried the FX3 as I bought my saddle before that was released. I do recommend the demo program as I needed a larger gullet than I originally thought I would. Good luck! |

I haven't ridden in the FX3 but that's what I have ordered. After owning a Crown C and a Racer and talking extensively with Brian at Martin he suggested I get the FX3. My horse is built downhill and drops into his turns and I was struggling to sit down in my turns. So fingers crossed that I like it when it gets here in a few weeks! |
