Mares will cook them as long as they need to. We have had them go over 365 without issue

I had a maiden mare go 360 days. She's a smaller mare and we did have to pull the colt.

The problem with mares is they really don't HAVE a "due date". One mare might carry 330 days
(or less
) every year, while another will carry 365 days
(or more
). BOTH are considered "normal". I've seen plenty of mares that carry LONGER than a year and they have no issues.

My made went a month past her due date. We were a little nervous about it. Her first foal had a birth defect so we were concerned with her second. He came out totally normal and a handful lol.

My 2014 cold was 373 days. I was a mess. My first baby and the mare did that to me. She bagged up, then it went down, bagged up again. Never waxed. Would go out and she would be covered in sweat and off by herself, then NOTHING. I checked on her every 3 hours all night long for almost 5 weeks.
Then BAM went out one morning after a thunder storm and there he was.

I just had a maiden go 365 days. The vet kept assuring me it was fine and normal. She did great and had a normal sized foal . No problems. She got so big at the end I really expected him to come out lookin like a yearling.

My mare carried her last foal for 377 days. He was cooked to perfection. She has had 4 foals and all have been in the 370 day range. It drives me nuts waiting for her to pop. I swear she does it on purpose. She's a brat like that. Ü

Normal for mares is 10 1/2 to 12 months. We had one that went well over the 12 months. Drove me nuts. Most of mine go about 345 days.

Normal gestation can range between 320-370 days.... most foal about 340
(this is the date I base my 'due date' on
)....

They are done when they are done. When they get close, be alert around weather changes...the nastier the weather, the better chance they will spit that baby out.

No such thing as a "due date" on a mare.
I've had them come from 320-372 days.
My mares never seem to do the same thing twice.
