Basically as the title states...

I have my horse in a indoor/outdoor stall. Indoor is completely wood (no holes). Outside is just typical panels. Well I cropped his mane since I assumed he was rubbing it raw. Now his tail is completely thinned, & about 6-8" shorter. The horse next to him is a yearling stud colt. My horse is also a stud (4yrs). I don't have a ton of spots to move him to-due to mares/weaker stalls.

What are ideas for blocking him & the other horse? I don't see the hair on the ground; my horse had a THICK tail & I really hope the colts stomach doesn't get impacted (I warned owner). I thought about getting a cattle panel. Right now I was looking online & came across "Kool Kurtains". My idea would be to use one sideways.

I would hate for my horse to not have ANY interaction with the other one.

Ideas?

can you run a short electric wire on the inside of his pen? Keep him from getting close enough to be chewed on.

Tried. Along with braids & super intrigate knots. LOL Somehow they always get it off!  & Then once his mane grows back, I'll have that problem all over again.

Maybe spray it with vinegar? Not like everyday to where it's a hassle , but if he's doing it enough one or two days of spraying may deter him. I think there's some kind of bitter spray for cribbers so that may work too!

I'll have to look into this. Are the solar ones any good? We don't have any electricity in the barn.

Try to find a bitter spray, or maybe some hot sauce sprayed around the bottom of the tail.

Thanks! I'll have to look into some type of spray. He got lots of fly spray yesterday. Maybe that will help in the meantime; it sure didnt taste good when it got in my mouth LOL

We had a tail eater once and we mixed cayenne pepper with petroleum jelly and rubbed it throughout the tail.  It worked for us.

The solar ones are good, or you can hook them to a marine battery. It will last a while, then you hook the battery up to a charger a couple times a year when it runs out.

Normally once it shocks them once or twice they learn not to touch it and they don't care whether its hot or not they leave it alone.

Until I can get something more permanent set up.... Last night I drowned his mane & tail in MTG lol. Hopefully that deters the other colt from eating it. I put a tail bag on again, so maybe he won't take it off/mess with it if he smells the MTG.

We shall see. & thanks to everyone for all the ideas!

Vaseline and cayenne pepper powder rubbed together and worked into the tail. It will cause more work for you. The solar hot wire charger is good too. I would put hot wire up on all areas the yearling could get to your guy
