I am in the process of buying a new Ram truck. Trying to decide between a 3500 Ram diesel single wheel, or a 3500 Ram diesel dually. I pull my 32 foot long goose neck about 5 times a month. This would be my first dually experience, and looking for opinions. Thanks!

Dually. You'll want the extra stability it offers with a trailer that long.

I would go with the dually if you use it for hauling. So much more stable.

Katie, hope you dont mind me asking I your thread, but my question is regarding single wheel vs dually....

At what length and weight of trailer do you move up to a dually?

I pulled with a single rear wheel for years, but love the extra stability of a dually.  I don't think I'll ever go back.

Went from a single wheel to a dually with my 8' wide 23' on the floor trailer - HUGE difference. Best decision ever. Trailer is a joy to haul now.

How big of a trailer are you pulling? I would say if its a 3H or bigger, def go with a dually.

Dual Wheels = more stability pulling a trailer. Especially something as long as 32'. Also bigger brakes and springs.

I have 2 F-350  1 tons. 1 is a single wheel and the other is a dually. My 4 horse is 26 ft on the floor. The dually is more stable. If we load it heavy the dually is used. If we are just going to a show that is close or only have a couple horses we will take the single wheel. Mine does not have a LQ in it yet. When we go from Iowa to Wy on our trips it is a lot more confident driving with the dually. I was with a friend once with a single wheel on I-90 running 75 and blew a rear tire out on the truck and we were just about in the median before he got it back under control.  Both types have their place. Its just what you need the most.

Very well said!
I've got the preference for a dually my husband rather likes the single wheel on our ranch roads. If only they made a switch to pull up the extra wheel while we're on the ranch roads.

Frankly to answer your question, anything over a 13' LQ and 4 horses I would want my dually.

5 Horses and a LQ greater than 12' I want a big ton and a half or larger truck.
