Those that feed a Magnesium supplement, did you do any type of testing before you decided to start using it? Do you give it in addition/conjunction of other supplements? Any specific brands you like? I have a mare that is very tight muscled and can get body sore so I am looking into some supplements to help her.

I use it along with any other supplements I am feeding . In our area our grass tends to be very low in magnesium so they all get it. I use some from Ucklele or performance equine nutrition. I do not use Magnesium oxide although that is in many supplements I feel I get better results form sources like magnesium malate, citrate, proteinate.

I like Quiessence and if I can't get that, I use 707 Calming.  Mine is for a nervous horse.

I'm been buying MVP Magnesium 5000 and there is a Magnesium 3000 that is a little cheaper. I get mine from United Vet Equine

I use MagRestore by Performance Equine Nutrition. I've also started feeding the Daily Gold for ulcers (can't remember exactly what its called) My horse had improvement with the magnesium alone but wasn't quite settled. So I tried the Daily Gold ... he's much nicer to be around.

Did anyone see it resolve body soreness or do you use it more for calming?

I use it for body soreness, which its really only a small piece of the diet I have them on, I have horses with pssm type 2. Like the magrestore the best as you don't have to use as much which is good for picky eaters, but have just used plain mag ox as well.

I have a PSSM 2 horse (but I use it on everyone) and I just use MagOxide from the local feed store. 50# bag for $17 and it lasts forever

Keep in mind that there are different forms of Mg. Each one has a different absorption rate. Mg Aspartate and Mg Chloride score high on the list as far as absorption and stay in the bloodstream longer. Mg Oxide is a very cheap form of Mg and has a low absorption rate and very little reaches the bloodstream. Something to think about when shopping around!

Magnesium is what I call a control vitamin, without it many of the other vitamins will not work. Your horse has tight muscles you need pure vitamin E and vitamin C\K these vitamins feed the muscle and readily available to the horses system. Since domestic horses are stalled and mostly on dry lot, it is important to supplement thes supplements often.
