| What brand of camera/system does everyone use to monitor their pregnant mares? Pros and cons? How far away from your barn is your house and does anyone use a cell phone to view the camera?

Location: Muskogee, OK | I just installed a "Reolink" camera in my barn for foaling purposes.. I love it!! We got it off amazon for about $65-75. It does need WiFi to function, so that was a road bump as we did not have WiFi in the barn. But, I ended up purchasing a very long ethernet cable and was able to get the WiFi in the barn and it works great.
Has an app that makes it super easy to access from your phone. Great picture, night vision and all.

Oh wow, that sounds like an easy setup and the picture quality is very nice! When you say a “very long Ethernet cable”... how long are you talking? Did you bury the cable at all or just left it exposed? Our barns are each about 200ft away from the house in different directions, so I’m not sure they make cables that long  I may have to talk to our ISP about the best setup for us, WiFi wise. |

Location: Nebraska | I just got an Arlo pro. I’m still playing with it to find out where I like it best. I bought a bigger router and haven’t had an issue. The furthest I’ve had them from the house is around 200 ft. |

Location: Muskogee, OK | Once I got WiFi to the barn it was smooth sailing! My barn is only about 150 ft from my house so I got a 200 ft cord off of Amazon... I went for the higher quality weather durable outdoor cord (was about $60)... and we buried it.
We also got a Netgear WiFi extender that also can act as a hotspot... and plugged the Ethernet cord into that so I can run multiple things out there if I want |

I've read a bit about the Arlo setups, we are looking at baby monitors and they have one that can be accessed via cell phone. That's good to know they can go the longer distance as well- and they're cordless/wireless, correct? |

I had no idea they made cords that long (or even outdoor ones), but Amazon has everything these days! (Not sure how I feel about that.. I always find something I don't need  ). This will be our first foaling season at our new house, so I'm trying to decide which barn we want to set everything up in, and whether we want it long term or have it easily moveable if we switch barns, or what our best option even is. |

Yep. You just have a box that attaches to the router and everything else is wireless. There is an app for your phone so you can log in from anywhere and see what’s going on. The cameras have magnets on the back for setting them up. I like that because then I can take them down and put them elsewhere when I’m not watching mares. I’ve been playing with them in the pasture and have caught a couple coyotes, a Fox, and a deer. The ones I have you can also talk into through the app. |

That sounds pretty convenient and portable, did you just get the one camera setup or more? I read some reviews where people’s Arlo camera feeds were being hacked and possibly viewed by other people- have you heard anything about that or the encryption of the camera? Not that watching a mare close to foaling is anything worth hacking, but I’m not sure how I feel about other people having access to my camera system. |

Mine came with 2. Not sure about the being hacked thing. I use my fingerprint to access the app. I’ve heard about baby cams being hacked. I have a couple of friends with the arlo systems and they’ve never had a problem. They use theirs for actual security. |
