Trying to figure out how much to charge.  I have someone wanting me to take this 11 year old mare in for a tune up and then to sell.  Trying to figure out what to charge a month then I will get a percentage of the sale when I sell her.  All I know is she was too much for his daughter, she has been totally vetted clean so I dont know how much tuning she will need.  I need to have a set cost so I can have it in writing.  Suggestions?

So you are only charging full care boarding not a training fee? I would think training... also where at in Texas?

I'm in N Tx The mare is trained she just needs a tune up is what I was told  I thought I would start with full care to get a base price since she will be with me until she sells. If I have to do a lot of tuning or fixing obviously I will have to price accordingly.

Tuning to me IS training, so I think you're asking more for a training and board rate, but....

I pay $350 per month for full board (stall and turnout).

Last time I had to board it was $450 for full... that included feed and hay. I ended up supplying my own feed because I didnt want my horse to eat "just oats" but they didn't charge me any less. That was just board. Our trainer changes $800 a month for training or tuning, that includes his feed and hay twice a day.

I pay $450 a month per horse, thats for stall and hay only. Turnout, blanketing, grain is available for additional fees. We don't have pasture in our area, it is a luxury if you do so the few privately owned facilities that do have it charge $750+ (this is not with any training or riding).

Im in the midsouth and it's $200 for self care and $450 for full board, you supply the feed, wormer, trims, vet, etc. but hay is included. That;s actually pretty resonable for around here. If there is training/ tuning/ exercising involved I would say it should be at least $800/mo.

My area board rates are more than a mortgage payment in the midwest. Full board in Fairfax, Prince William or Loudoun Counties starts at $650, and that's a run down farm. There are farms in this area charging $2K for full board. No training.

In my opinion, "tuning" is still training.

So maybe a better comparison would be to compare what other trainers are charging. I pay about $800 for 30 days riding for my reining training to "tune" my horses. (that fee includes board along with training)

One very good barrel futurity trainer I know of, I think she said it ends up being around $1,000 a month or so for full training, board, vet costs, etc when we asked her at a clinic.

In my area, full care board is around $400 to $500 a month. (no training)
