I was just reading up on the Equiwinner Patches and was wondering if anyone has ever used them. I have a horse that is a bleeder and was wondering if this was something that help him or if it is a waste of money.

I tried them for by bleeder--followed the instructions to a "T" and they didn't work.  However, nothing ever worked for him except Lasix.  I finally quit trying everything and just stuck with what I knew worked because I was worried about the toll bleeding through the other stuff was taking on his body.

I have no personal experience with them but know to individuals who have used them on significant bleeders and they both have nothing but good things to say as far as results.  They were both very apprehensive to try it but  couldn't believe the positive results that were delivered.

I used them earlier this year. I don't know if they worked or not but my severe PSSM mare hasn't tied up once. I was also managing her diet and exercise well so I am not sure how well the patches worked - but for the price, they were worth trying and I will use them again.

I have not had personal experience with them on my own horses but knew someone who used them on a bleeder and it did not help the horse at all-- still a bleeder after and there was no improvement whatsoever.

On that run? Did you use them correctly? I think you are supposed to change patch every 24 hours for 10 days with limited exertion.

The horse I've seen them used on they were used correctly to a T, patch a day for 10 days with no hard riding or competition during that time (their recommendations for using these for EIPH).  His first run back he bled.  I guess I was kind of skeptical as to how they work in the first place, being a vet student and their claim to "reset electrolyte imbalances" through a patch just didnt add up to me.  I researched it further and didn't get any great answers as to how they work their magic. Seeing this trial run first hand (was not my horse, but a friends horse) kind of confirmed my skepticism.  Their claim that these are the "only effective treatment for EIPH, anhidrosis and head shaking" is just asinine to me.

I guess if you have the money to spend on them, it wouldnt hurt to try.  Some people claim they work wonders, and if your horse responds in the same way then that would be great!  But in my opinion the science behind them is lacking and I have yet to see any veterinarian backing them.
