| Thinking of going to F350 6.2 L gas engine vs diesel. Don't do alot of long hauling anymore just within about 100 or so mile from home at most. Have 4 hrs trailer with 8ft LQ. Looking for others experience etc.

Location: Dubach, LA | I've been thinking about it too. My F350 diesel only gets 11-13 miles per gallon. Now you have that additive and diesel to pay for. If the gas engines today run cooler than the ones from the 80s and 90s, I think the cost would be the same or cheaper. |

An F350 gasser does well to get 8mpg. I remember in the late 80's when the Chevrolet 454 Dually(s) were going strong..............I asked a man, "What kind of gas mileage do you get?" His response was "Eight miles with a trailer and Eight miles without a trailer." I laughed my butt off! |

| We have an 01 (I belive) V10 dully standard transmision. That truck is a workhorse! Before it came here it was a hotshot truck on the oil patch then bought by my FIL and survive my husband as a numb ass teen and collage student. It has not had a single easy mile.
Pulls the pants off the duramaxes around here :-D its now starting to get a bit tired and we just use it around home mostly but its been a great truck.
And it didn't get awful fule mileage, I mean theres better but it wasent THAT bad.

Location: North Central Iowa Land of white frozen grass | If you factor in the cost differance in fuel which diesel is higher. And the upkeep cost on servicing the diesel in filters and oil changes. It will take well over a 100,000 miles to make up the differance in the fuel milage differance. If it ever will. |

Location: Bandera, TX | BSHauler, what are you pulling your trailers with? I too, am sick of the diesel problems. I can't type in this page the issues I've had with the DEF systems. Horses have suffered on the roadside due to this system and a forth of July run smashed because GM couldn't fix the issue. |

Location: Ft Worth TX | I have a 99' V10 Dually and LOVE IT! get 10 mpg pulling, 14 mpg highway, 12 mpg city. reliable. Cheaper to fix. EASIER TO GET INTO THE MECHANIC, Does not cost much more to pull with then the '95 dodge 12v diesel- oh and oil changes are CHEAP |

Location: North Central Iowa Land of white frozen grass | UNO I have 2 Fords. One is an 02 F-350 7.3 diesel and the other one is a 6.0 diesel. But before I got these I had a F-350 crew cab dually with a 351 gas and I put 250.000 miles on it pulling a horse trailer. I hardly spent any money on that truck. It was by far much cheaper to run in cost per mile than my diesels have been. The gas just will not get you there as fast. The biggest problem with diesels is the cost of fuel is higher and the oil and filters get very costly. |

Location: Bandera, TX | BS Hauler: Thanks for the reply, I'm tossed to go class 8 or go gas. Husband wants me to go single wheel due to ranch road rock issues. But I love the ease of driving a dually while towing. The diesel's don't get near the mileage they did before the govt. choked them with DEF and such.
NTO:My husband won't give me back my old dually. He said no way, I told you not to buy till they work the kinks out...
Since my son is pretty handy I may just have him delete the def system and take my chances on inspections. A regular truck is so easy to mount up in vs the class 8 rigs.
Keep your dodge it was from a great year. |

| I purchased a brand new 6.4 hemi two months ago .. We absolutely love it ! I don't think you could pay me to own another diesel.. Can't count how many times we've been stuck on the side of the highways with them .. It's just ridiculous . The gas trucks we've had would pull all day long & not break down once .. We were lucky to ever make it home with the diesels . They aren't worth the extra money & inconvenience in my eyes . Our new ram 3500 gets about 9-10 mpg pulling , 14 empty . Everyone tells me the new diesels only get 9 mpg pulling .. So you do the math ! I'm all for the gassers :) |
