Ok... Due to time constraints, I need to focus on ONE horse to get ready for competition, and push the other one to the back burner. I was badly injured a little over 2 years ago, and have done very little riding. Yesterday I rode both to see where we're at. Here are the 2 I must choose between- Horse #1- 15 yo, extremely well broke, small horse that has trouble in really deep ground, but is well seasoned and finished on the pattern. Just needs to get back in shape. Solid 3D in the past, I think could be a consistent 2D horse once back in physical shape. However, I'm suspecting there may be a lameness issue about to arise- I can't put my finger on it yet and nobody else sees it, so I could be wrong. (Whether I'm racing this horse or not, any lameness that arises will be addressed) This horse would be ready to race as soon as they are physically in shape. I've ridden this horse a little bit, about 30 times in the last 2-1/2 years. Other people have ridden this horse for barrel racing lessons.Horse #2- 8yo, big horse that is the fastest horse I've ever ridden in my entire life, so fast that it scares me lol (based off of sprinting in the past) I fully believe this horse could be a 1D/rodeo horse, due to build, mind, and speed... NOT seasoned, was beginning to lope the pattern 3 years ago, had a few issues of feeling like this horse wasn't going to turn the barrels(though e never did miss any turns, and we did a LOT of slow work whenever those feelings arose). This horse probably won't be ready to actually compete until June at the earliest. Nobody has ridden this horse in 2-1/2 years, until yesterday. Will need work, but remembers a lot.Which one would you focus on?

If you had a really bad accident and the #2 horse scares you I would suggest to go with the 15yr old. You need something to build your confidence. YOu could have the fastest horse in the world and if your scared of it you won't do any good.

I'm over the accident now :) The speed of the 8 yo scared me long before the accident, there's literally just SO much speed and power there that it is breathtaking- neither of these horses have any guile so I'm not taking any fear into account :) My main dilemma is that the 15yo is finished, but the 8yo had FAR more potential. I want to win... So, do I want to win the 2D this year, or win 1D/rodeos later? The terrible decisions I must face... LoL

Based on the wording of your descriptions of each horse, it appears you are much more excited about the 8 year old. Go with it! Listen to your gut!

I would definitely say #2. But I'd go into it with smaller goals and less time constraint. Take your time with him instead of "ready in June at the earliest". I wouldn't worry about that. But he sounds like he can take you far.

Β Yes, the #2 horse is going to take a LOT of little steps! I have NO deadline for that horse because it truly will take as long as it takes- I was using that date for comparison to the other horse- #1 will be ready within 3 months max, #2 won't be ready for AT least 5-6 months, probably a lot longer.

Β My sister, who's horses are 1 & 20 yo, asked yesterday if I would mind of she ran horse #1, since she doesn't have anything to race... So that works perfectly!!! :D I'll be able to focus on horse #2 without feeling like I'm letting horse #1 waste :)
