Location: Central Texas | My neighbor wants to know if anyone has the soft step foam padding that goes under the mats in the horse trailer and if so do you like it and do you feel it is worth the money. I have no idea if that is the real name for it. She has her trailer being serviced and was having a few things added (stud divider, extra lights) and they are trying to talk her into adding this. She has a 2005 Alumaline 3 horse LQ.
Any thoughts or opinions??

Location: Texas | I had it in a previous trailer. It was great... but it was a P.I.T.B when it came time to clean the trailer. Pull out the heavy, top mats and then pull out the light, foam padding. Urine will gather and pool under them. I am kind of anal about keeping my trailer clean and didn't want the urine to degrade my aluminum floor so I was pulling everything out to clean quite often. I guess having the foam rubber light mats isn't any more work than having to pull the heavy top mats out. In my current trailer, I had the spray in liner WERM flooring put in. No more heavy rubber mats! I put shavings down to soak up any urine and I use Soft Ride boots for any trips longer than a half hour. This makes cleaning out the trailer a breeze. And you can use the Soft Ride boots in stalls, standing on concrete, etc. |

Location: Oklahoma | It really breaks down over time. Plus like the above person said it sucks to pull it out to clean. I like the W.E.R.M. flooring... (We Eliminate Rubber Mats)

Location: Desert Land | I just got a new to me trailer a few months ago and it had the padding. It made the rubber mats too high so the rear tack wouldn't collapse right. It was also a pain because like mentioned above...the urine was collecting betweeen the rubber mat & padding & between the padding and aluminum floor. I pulled them out and tossed them.
I really want to get the WERM flooring. I am also anal about keeping my trailer clean, so I am tired of pulling up mats so often.

| I have had it in my last 2 trailers. It is not worth the money. Might as well put in a polylast type floor for a few more $$ and eliminate mats all together. It is made to last for 2-3 years with only moderate hauling. It is hard to clean and makes the trailer smell of ammonia. It does add a little more padding, but not a whole lot. Shavings really stick to it when they get between the mats and the padding. Way too expensive for not much benefit.
ETA: I just had my mats replaced with polylast. Great investment.

Yes that's what she is talking about. She is fixing to move across country and the trailer service place recommended that she add them to her trailer. She is trying to decide if it's worth it. |

I've hauled across the country many times. Just bed down the trailer deep with shavings. Or, buy soft ride boots. The cost of the padding isn't worth it. |

| GO get the cheap stuff from lowes its more durable than the spray in and MUCH cheaper....they will cut it to your exact measurements.

You don't use shavings with that? I've seen it but ppl i've seen still use shavings with it...just wondering if really could get away without shavings. |

Absolutely....my next trailer will have the WERM floor....the pro cushion is expensive, and a pain if you want to clean your trailer, and does bottom out over time...I sold a trailer for Bobby Mote and he had a thick gel pad under his floor mats that was really neat...he said it had been in there for several years and had a lot of horses in it because it came from Luke Branquinho, so you know it was hauled all over the place, and it was not bottomed out....I never did find out where he got it since the trailer sold really fast, but I would pick the gel pad for sure before the pro cushion... |
