I've used them all through the years it seems, from starting colts for a living to ranching to barrels. Everything on the place is a mohair with the exception of what is on my 7yr old son's saddle. He has a much hated neoprene that was a gift. He doesn't ride a lot and never gets that old boy sweaty so we make it work for now.

I prefer straight too. Welcome to BHW

I have wool or mohair cinches on all saddles. I prefer the roper cinches.

I love my Alpaca cinches.  Extremely soft, but be sure and order a size down because they stretch.  I also prefer roper style.

I like wool fleece. The classic equine roper one is my fave.

I have a roper mohair cinch by Dennis Moreland - he makes the ones that NRS sells too.  I love it! My horse doesn't have much in the wither department so I have to tighten up quite a bit to run but it holds really well. He doesn't ever get sore from it and is never cinchy.

I use shearling wool. horses love them and don't have to cinch as tight.

Calvin Allen Mohair roper cinch is on my barrel saddle
and a NRS Mohair Roper is on my roping saddle

I use a nylon tie strap and off billet on them both because they stretch. I found that if I use a leather tie strap or off billet, I can't get it tight enough or I get it too tight. There was no middle ground that I could find.
