I still can't believe that after all these years that the NBHA State Show is still held in the dead heat of June! I realize that "youth" riders are out of school, but these barrel racing kids miss school for plenty of other barrel races.

Yes the spectators, office staff and vendors all are inside in the freezing air conditioning, but the poor horses have to deal with those horrible stalls, the stalls in the bldg. with a/c and after a couple of days it smells like total urine. Plus the cost of those stalls for not even a week is the same as the very nice stalls at the NBHA Open/Senior/Youth World.

If you didn't go, you have nothing to complain about.

Instead of complaining, why don't you become the NBHA Florida director and you put it on however you see fit.

So you get on a public forum and publicly bash the Florida NBHA State Director for absolutely no reason?

Did you really create an account just to talk smack about our state director? Classy.

Let me get on my soap box, I am a State Director, and let me tell you putting on a State Show is no eay feat, instead of bashing, step up and help and give some suggestions and help to implament.  I get sick and tired of people bashing a barrel race of any size and not do a darn thing.  Walk a day in her shoes and the week of putting it on and then y ou may be able to voice your opinion, until then KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!!!!!  and stay home.

Yes it's hot and it sucks but it's like that a good bit of the year. Last few years the temp has been a bit more mild, it is a little hotter then normal right now but there is plenty of shade for us driving to and from, I've seen a lot of people pitching tents (pop ups) and using fans from generators. The air conditioned stalls are a great idea, of
Course it's going to end up smelling but at least they give us that option.

I guess there's no perfect time for a show this big, it's ran well and it's been zipping right along so I have no complaints!

I also purchased a t shirt so I wouldn't be as hot, although I made finals so I'll be wearing my long sleeves Sunday!

Just throwing this out there but as Floridians shouldn't everyone be used to the heat??  I agree its no fun. I went to 2 races last weekend and it was 93 and humid (I am in the northeast). But you deal with it....

This isn't publicly bashing a state director or a state show.  This is publicly showing one's ignorance!  This show is produced AFTER school is dismissed for the summer in EVERY district in the state of Florida ...that's the reason that the show is put on in the heat of the summer. Yes, you acknowledge that but did you KNOW: One time, it was produced during a cooler month and the show was less than half the normal size and the complaints from those that couldn't attend because of school age children were LOUD and CLEAR...wait until our kids are out of school!!!!

The Florida State NBHA show is the largest in size and money added in the entire nation!  It's hard to argue with success, and yet, there are those that choose to try to make an argument for their way of doing things....sad, they can't just congratulate those that pull off such a huge feat as putting on a gigantic show with lots of added  money that draws such large numbers.  Of course, there will always be those kind of people who are just miserable individuals who attempt to bring others down to their pitiful and unhappy levels by complaining about something that soooo many others are very happy with...just look at the FB postings after the state show to see how happy those that attended were with the show. So, complain all you want about the FL State Show but don't you think it's kind of hard to argue with SUCCESS?!!!

Yes, the stalls are expensive (perhaps that has to do with what the facility charges) etc. etc.  YET we consistently draw the numbers year after year...thankfully,the majority of those that do choose not to come for whatever reason, stay home and keep their opinions to themselves about why they didn't come...because really, who cares?  To each his own.

I didn't place; didn't make any money; didn't make it back to the finals; and hit a barrel on a horse that never hits barrels, and I enjoyed the show immensely!!!

Perry Super Show is coming up and there will be a few who chose not to go to the State Show that will be there with bells on...makes no sense to me to choose that show over State but, hey, like I said...to each his own...to those who go to Perry...enjoy the show, have fun and be safe!

The youth riders are what keep this sport going and growing.  And as a parent it's not the easiest to just pull them out of school anytime you would like to.  The school administration is not fond of "barrel racing" as a legitimate excusable absense.  With that said, would it be more comfortable to have the show in March or November?  Sure...but as one poster said, they tried that and the participation dropped dramatically.  I don't blame our state director any others involved in the decision for choosing summer time to have it.
I don't know about everyone else but I've rode / competed in extreme weather through out my life whether it's heat, snow, rain, or just plain freezing out.  You learn to deal and take precautions to care for your horses in the more extreme weather.  Life isn't always about comfort and my parents always told me as a kid that I either suck it up and quit complaining or stay home.  I learned my lesson quickly!

I was at the State show and it was GREAT.  880 Open riders and ti was a very smooth event.  There are the normal problems that any show has, and there are a lot of cry babies that try to trash everything from the ground to the stalls, to anything else you can think of.

I do know we have been going since about 2002 and I don't think we have missed any.  When to have it is always a tough question, but I guarantee no matter when they have it, it will **** off a lot of people, because that seems to be one of the things they do.  For one thing, January to April are the months that the Southeast Circuit has most of their big money PRCA/WPRA Rodeo's. . .why would the State show want to knock all those riders out.  There is also a couple of other big NBHA shows like Shamrock and Dixie Nationals that are also nice but would take from the pool of riders.  People only have so much money every few months and we are pretty used to the heat.

We were not in the ac barn, I request not to be, but my horses were no hotter than they will be if we get to go to Perry, or Youth World when we went to those. . .Fans, hydration and management of your animals.

My brother does the computer displays for the NBHA FL State show and it's a TON of work.  I am a bit partial to the show, but when you put on a show that competes with the National shows and bigger sometimes, you have a gigantic job and I can also tell you more than HALF the staff are still volunteers.

My daughter ran with a broken, healing foot and finished tied for 5th in the finals!  Great year for them and not just because they did well, but the horse came back from a Stromal Abcess, and she was coming back from a very bad automobile accident.  We didn't know for sure until about 10 days before if they would be able to run down the alley way!

I'm still shocked at the pathetic whining and cry babying from some of what I thought were more knowledgable people.  Suggestions are great, help is even greater...bashing, crying and whining is pretty sad.

Any other staff on here, Thanks for a great show!!!!!  It can compete with the best of the best anywhere.

The funny thing is this:  There are some that complain that the Florida State Show is in the heat of the summer, yet, they will still load up and go to Perry for the July barrel race when it's even hotter.  There are some that will complain of the stalls being too expensive that will load up and drive all the way to Perry for either the July and/or World shows or all of the above...use all that gas and time to go to Perry, but complain about the state show...go figure?  I'm not sure what the litmus test is for who is using the most common sense there other than do what makes you happy and let others do the same.
