I like the looks of both saddles but unfortunately I'm unable to see either of these saddles in person right now and it's I but one it would have to be online. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of each?

The Quality of the New Circle Y's is pretty pitiful. The Double J's have gone down too but still trumps a Circle Y any day of the week. JMHO...You need to ride in both of the saddles that you want as it doesn't matter if the quality of one saddle is better then the other if one saddle fits you and your horse and the other doesn't. My sister just bought the new MJ hiphugger saddle and loves how it rides but she can't stand the quality of it especially since she paid over $2,000. for it.

A MJ does not compare to a Double J any day of the week.

I have a '95 model of the original Paywindow from Circle Y that I love. That said I just bought another saddle and got a Double J Pro because the quality is just so much better.

I remember when the quality of Circle Y's were really good.

I have both now and have had several of each. I prefer to ride the mj...that said if you don't buy a more expensive double j you get iffy quality there as well. I think the quality of both are inconsistent...I have one mj bought 6 months before the other that is way better made than the new one. Also my mom and I bought a couple double j at the same time and one was better than the other...I prefer the mj ride so I would go w that but it's all personal preference. IF I wasn't going to go super expensive though like the upper end double j I would buy a coats

My trainer rides all day long she has both Mj and Double J LM. When I decided to buy a new saddle I asked her. She told me to get an MJ Ultimate. When I went over there today she was riding her own horse and he was saddled up her her MJ. Since I live about 30 miles from Josey's I ran my horse up there and had a saddle fitted. The saddle is so comfortable, but the forward hung stirrups took a little getting used to but work great for me now. The LM has forward hung stirrups too, too by the way. The main advice is get a seat large enough. Personally, I think I am kind of fat but I am really not that big and my trainer told me to get a 16 inch seat. I thought it was too big at first but when Lisa Mitchell told me that my other saddle was too smalll
(15 inch
) and go put my MJ back on the horse I realized it was the correct choice.

I have yet to have a double J fit any of my horses. They have all been trophy saddles but whatever tree they've got in them sits up about 2 inches in the back end on every horse I put it on. I just can't bring myself to use them long enough to see if that will change.

I love my joseys!! Have had two different brands of saddles
(cactus racer & an off brand custom after my first josey and hated them both they were deep pocketed in the seat and rolled me around and popped me up.i have come to learn I prefer high pommel and cantle and a flatter seat. So I sold them after 6 months and bought another josey. I do like the high cantle and pommel if a double j,but haven't sat in one nor can I afford em. I have rode in a friends Caldwell, and holy cow!! Loved it!! If I had the money that's what I'd get!

I just got a Pozzi Double J and LOVE it! The quality is great and other than my 1994 Circle Y I haven't ridden in anything better.

Double J has around 11 different trees and their trophy saddles are the bottom of the line saddles. I would bet they use the same tree for all of them.

Thank you everyone! I know that I've looked at Double J for some time now but I would have to get their lower priced ones. Max I could go would be $2,000
(without s/h charges
) so hearing that the cheaper Double J's are lower quality scares me a little bit.
What type of horses do the Martha Josey's fit best in?

My standard tree mj fits pretty much all my horses with a pad change and I'm riding 8 different ones right now. The wide tree is wider than I thought it was so I have one of those just sitting and would like to sell it if anyone is looking ;
