| I am looking to breed one of my two mares in 2017. Thoughts on which one will give me the better offspring (based on the pedigrees, anyway)
Dark Bay Appendix mare - just starting barrels http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/moons+bella+rose Grey Paint Mare - running 1D/2D currently http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/satin+blue+ribbon
Thanks!

Location: Where I am happiest | We need more info. Nobody can tell you anything based on the little info provided. WHO are you breeding to and we need to know what each mare has done and see a pic. |

| Need a bit more info. What has each mare done? What faults are you looking to improve upon? Are you going to keep the foal for yourself or try and sell? I don't see much of anything in their pedigrees so if you're trying to make the foal marketable to the public you'd need a strong stud.
ETA: Just based off the info you've given us, the 1D/2D mare will be much more marketable than something just started on barrels.

Location: Oklahoma | Ok for a foal to have Any influence froma horse in its Pedigree it must carry 10% or more!!! That said I would breed the 1st mare to a Jody O Toole son out of a Vital Sign or Signature daughter... Another stallion that would bring her best blood up closer would be First Wrangler if Hes still alive!!! Or own sons of The Signature or Vital Sign... But I really think the better mating is Jody O Toole son with Signature or Vital Sign on bottom!!!
I had an Older Friend in the horse industry tell Me 1 day... You know the difference in a great horse vs a good or average horse... I said whats that & He said How close the other Great Horses are in its Pedigree & That is the same explanation as it has to have 10% or more to have an effect on the foal... Hope My 2cents helps :)
On the Paint mare if shes solid or a tobiano type pattern I would say the black n white stallion of the Lightning T Ranch in South Texas... Again just My 2cents & not seeing comformation on either mares!!! |

I don't know in which part of the USA you live in so you can breed to stallions that are close to you without spending too much money ..
I classify pedigrees like your two mares as lost bloodlines ... they started off with some well known horses and then you can see ranch horse breeding takes over with studs they kept out of their own stock for a number of years.
Since most owners of sons of Dash Ta Fame charge excessive stud fees .. makes me think they are trying to pay off borrowed money ... lol ...
To upgrade your 2017 foal I suggest you take a look at studs in the $500-750 range and of course pay attention to CS//shipping charges and your local vet expenses ..
Granada Farm usually has several high powered bloodlines that did not do well on the track but will certainly bring half of your foals bloodlines to current status and add speed and conformation to it... standing under a $1000 ..
I would recommend the following to get some speed and turning power from his top TRES SEIS and bottom bloodlines .. MERIDOC solid performer with a dash of TINYS GAY added in for turning a barrel ... (DTF's dam is a daughter of TINYS GAY) .... look at the stud ... VIEW ME FLYING ...
GOOD LUCK IN 2017 ..

| Neither has a pedigree that is very stellar until much further back. With that in mind, go with the mare that has the better conformation. If they are similar, go with the paint because she is the most proven. |

| Carson City is a nice broodmare sire for running quarters. Alot of his daughters crossed on QH's produced some big time runners. I have to check back, I believe one of my owners actually owned a really nice stakes horse by Carson City.
Edited to add, magic cross on those Carson City horses was First Down Dash.

| Based on the information give, if I was to pick one, I would choose the grey mare based on her conformation, which is kind of hard to tell in the picture, and her performance. I do not like the brown mare's steep shoulder, knees, and up hill build. I don't think she's a scrub - just not something I'd chance on passing on.
Actually, what I would do if they were mine, is keep running the grey mare until she was proven, save my $$ up and then breed her to a top notch stud in 2-3 years. |

| Between the 2, I like the bay mare. I prefer an uphill build as I have found it can make it easier for them to keep their shoulders lifted and help them collect easier. Of course this is just my experience and I am no professional. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | The bay has a better pedigree. The grey is proven. I'd probably breed the grey, so long as you have video evidence of her placing in the 1D, to a nice race bred paint stud, maybe something like Awesome Chrome who has a number of proven barrel offspring. I think that's probably your best bet for a solid, marketable foal. Awesome Chrome does tend to have foals that are spunky though they are pretty darn athletic and balanced. |

Location: Oklahoma | With the Carson City / First Down Dash proven cross as stated above You could look harder at First Wrangler or FDD sons out of Jody O Toole, Vital Sign or Signature daughters :) just My thoughts!!! |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I like the looks of the bay mare, and I would be crossing her with a stud that has Streakin Six in there,I'm a big fan of his. There is a BB on here that has a son of his and hes El Scorcho in La, nice good looking fella if I was into breeding I would be breeding my mare to him to see what I would be getting. And heres another stud that I like its Party Of Six another Streakin Six son hes in OK. And I like On A Gator too hes something I would be checking out.
