Who does this? I'm wanting to hang my hay nets in my stalls to fill with some grass hay. I've been feeding alfalfa hay in their big troughs buy they've been stalled up because of the crazy rain we've had, so they haven't had access to their roundbale outside in several days. And if I put their coastal in with their alfalfa, it ends up all over the place on the ground. I'd hang them high enough so no chance of getting foot stuck or anything weird like that and I'd most likely hang it above their feed troughs too against the wall (my feed troughs are old water troughs) I've been told hanging any type of hay net in the stalls is a big no no.. but I'm worried they aren't getting enough hay right now being stuck inside

I have used a freedom feeder hay net for years with all my horses. It's the only thing I feed my hay in I have mine hanging higher than normal because if u pack em full the way I do then they tend to sag but i also have mine attached with stronger than normal zip ties so if for any reason they got caught in em it would break loose. But I have never had an issue

I use hay nets daily in inclement weather. I always run the tie rope around the tie point then through the bottom of the hay net to get it even higher off the ground and away from feet.

Thanks for the input... I've got pretty big stalls, so they aren't cramped up by any means but I hate keeping them cooped up this long! The pasture is under water right now so they'll have to stay put a few more days. I hung my nets above their feeders and they are stuffed with grass hay, I won't be surprised to find them still full in the morning, they love their alfalfa lol!

We use chix square bale nets when it's really cold so they have hay in front of them all the time. Love them.

The hay nets today can be bought with small holes that a hoof would not pass through but if the horse is shod there would be a possibility to slip the net between hoof and shoe.  I hang them so when empty the net doesn't fall below the bottom of the horses chest.  You are right that the horses love the alfalfa so eat that all and have nothing for hours and that is hard on them.

I've been using these for a few months and I love them. Saves me a lot of hay.

We do, but we tie ours at the stall gate.  No mess in the stalls.

Im obsessed with my hay chix corner feeder.  Is so easy to just throw the hay in the top and still have the option to use a slow feeder.  In my signature is a 20% off hay chix coupon link.

I wish I could do that. My barn isn't set up for that option though... I'm hoping keeping them tied above their feeders will catch most of what falls out. To my surprise they actually ate a bunch last night.

I looked into those.. my walls are tin though. Not sure that would work for my stalls. I'm just using my regular hay nets I used for tying at the trailer at shows. I'd like to buy some with a little smaller holes to slow them down

My 24 year old eats all his hay out of a hay net (it seems to prevent him from quidding as much, plus he will spread it all around, poop in it and all I see is dollar bills). In his turn out, I have a Hay Chix that I put about several flakes in; when I bring him in (which is rare) I have a nibble net I keep full.

I have the nibble net hanging from the existing hay racks...it is about chest high.

I got two slow feed hay nets from smartpak for $18.99 and have had them for YEARS, they were great quality. I use them in stalls every evening and for shows as well. I know they should eat off the ground but I tie mine high so feet don't get stuck in them.
