Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Pretty heavily Doc Bar bred, not entirely uncommon in the cutting horse industry. I have heard of Docs Solano, I believe he was a decent sire. Doc Quixote was a really great horse as was War Leo and Jessie James but they are too far back in my opinion to add traits to the horse in question. I would make sure to have this horse 5 panel tested before buying/breeding. |

| Thanks I was just wondering because the same mare was used twice, which was her dam and the studs dam. Not that she would be used for breeding because we are looking at her for my daughter, she is a very calm and level headed little mare. I heard great things about Docs Solano. |

This is an inbreed/linebreed. The sire was bred back to one of his daughters.
As the discussions go here on this board and elsewhere - if it works it's great, if not then it's really bad. If you DO ever think of breeding her you might want to consider a strong outcross with a stallion with -0- crossover lineage. |

Since you have the breeding twice in there you have twice as much performance horse. You also have a lot of foundation, should be a good hardy & smart horse. Just depends what discipline you want to do? A lot of them
End up having the speed too.
Where did you get this horse if I may ask?

Thanks you for the information, my daughter has been getting lesson on this mare and they have clicked together, and she hasn't clicked with one yet. She would be used for barrels and poles. She's a very smart well behaved little mare that's only had a like over 40 days put on her. |

This mare is 6 years old and has 40 days of riding and is now
being used as a lesson horse ??

As a parent you have the best thing going for you right now.
Daughter likes her lesson horse and is learning to ride.
This is the best of two worlds.
Keep the lessons going on this horse without becoming the
owner.
You need an older solid seen it all automatic barrel // pole
horse for a green rider that has never run barrels etc etc
If the horse actually came off of some ranch and has seen
a lot of hours ... you might let the trainer know that you
would like to see the horse run barrels and poles and if
suitable and daughter improves riding abilities ... start
taking barrel and pole lessons...
The pedigree on the mare is sire to own daughter
And this is termed .. inbreeding at it's possible worst for
mental or conformation problems, or reckless breeding,
or pasture accident.
This is the reason you need to see this mare in a dead run,
under pressure running barrels, long 5-6 hour trail rides,
worked in different arenas for several months to make any
judgement calls... and if daughter is going to keep her
passion for horses or if it is just temporary.

I agree though about your novice daughter on a novice horse, depending on if the 40 days is barrels/poles or just being broke for only 40 days? My best horses were ones that were day worked on for a few years before started on barrels. |

Location: Montana | That's too much inbreeding for me. Nothing against folks that like to do that, but not my inclination.
However, I admit that's my beliefs as a breeder - our heads are stuck in the future. You are in the present with a current decision to make. While I NEVER NEVER recommend 2 beginners - horse and rider - you have to decide what to do with this horse your daughter likes. I wish you luck! |

Every horse is different, as we all know. But some of them are old souls in a young body. I have to have a special kind of horse, and when I bought a 5 year old (17 years ago with help from experienced horsemen), more than one person raised their eyebrows. However, Faci was and is basically a dog in a 1300 pound horse body. You know your daughter; trust your instincts where she and this mare are concerned. Don't miss a wonderful horse just because of her age. . . . (Again, I realize all horses and all people are different.)
ETA: I like her breeding!
