So I found my dream trailer at a dream price. What was not disclosed when I bought it is that the girl who had it used car paint to write 'For Sale' and then took a scrubby brush to it. Now you can still read 'For Sale' because of the amount of scratches. I do not think I can acid wash this away. I have thought about buffing it. But I figured asking you all would be a great start to a possible solution.

gosh why would someone scrub it with a wire brush????   I would take it to a car detailer and have them buff it out...  Not sure if all the scratches will come out though.  thats your best chance........

I think that is where I am headed.... The only other option I can think of is to replace the panels.... but that will COST probably 1/2 of what I paid for it. I will talk to an autobody shop. Thanks for the idea!

If it is not a huge area, you can take polishing compound and hand rub it. I used fine compound. If it is a larger area, might take you forever. Compound is available at auto parts stores.

If you cant get it out, wrapping it could be an option if you really dont want to look at it. My buddy owns a wrapping business and he does cars/trucks and trailers all the time! looks great!

If you use rubbing compound it will polish bright instead of the original brushed finish. I would try a Scotchbright pad. Use the green side to see if that helps. Use straight back and forth motion, not round and round. Or, do what I do and put a Renew Gold trailer graphic over it.

So you can kind of see the scratches it takes up more than 75% of the driver side front panels and is also on a portion of the back of the trailer. The area in other words is large, very large. She had to of wanted people to see the 'for sale' a long ways away. I will try all the suggestions you have offered. I am not sure if wrapping it is an option though. I do love the look of the shinny aluminum. I will call and discuss this with a auto body shop and try the rubbing compound.

I know that there is something one of our drivers used on our big Wilson doubles that SHINED them.... it took scratches and all off and made them look brand new. He did it by hand. I will investigate and see what it was!

The trailer also has Cimarron labels on it as well. I know where there is a Cimarron dealer in Colorado, and I will be around there in October and I plan on stopping by. Thank you !

I would love to wrap one side of my trailer. The instense sun ate the paint off of it. Trying to find someone has been hard around where we live.

The steel brush that left the scratches was tuff enough to leave scratches with depth and
ragged edges. Just like looking at a tractor plowing a field. The light reflects in the
scratches and of course the deeper they are the more they can be seen.

So you want to use something that is very fine grained that will knock down the rough edges
and at the same time get into the grooves and soften the wall angles of the scratches ..

Two items to buy...
1000 grit black sandpaper used on metal ... use this first
wipe off with wet red shop towel or micro fibre towels
and some 0000 steel wool pads .. follow up with this
and wipe off again with same techniques

A buffer
fine grained polish buffer pads
red shop towels or micro fibre towels
and Gords clean, polish, sealer ... all in one bottle and one application

Use these with mild to gentle pressure and do not allow the area to get dry while you are
using straight up and down and then horizontal movements with both .....

Now watch this video and follow his instructions on buying the cheap buffer at Harbor Freight
along with 5-6 polishing foam pads. Keep in mind dirt in your pad will leave marks in this
polished aluminum or paint... so wash them out or use several new pads .. same with the
wipe down towels ..

https://youtu.be/FTuwLFYo3OI

Now buy this product ... keep in mind not to splatter it on other parts of trailer because it
will leave a mark because of the heavy oxidation all over your trailer .. so watch video
until you can follow his instructions ...write down notes to follow ...

Now order enough to do your entire trailer ... because you will like what it does and you will
want to do the rest of the trailer ... if you do ... do the rear of the trailer first to get the hang
of doing it ... lol ... hold a beer party .. must do a section for each beer .. lol
There are also DIY videos on this video >>>>

http://www.gordsaluminumpolish.com/

You know there will be a different reflection from the wire brush damage so don't expect a
lot of magic ... repeat the above on the two panels several times to help diminish the adverse
reflectivity.

If you decide to put the trailer logo or some flag, barrel horse emblem on these areas to
distract from the difference in the "shine". Go to a sign shop .. they have computers that
can copy or do anything you want .. and in the end .. only you will be able to see it because
you know the scratches were there ... lol

$100-150 $$'s and some elbow grease will make you a happy owner again ...

And do not let anyone con you into getting coarser grit paper or steel wool ..
you want a real fine grit that makes no scratches ..

GOOD LUCK ... VERY ATTRACTIVE LOOKING TRAILER!!
