I'm about to have 4-6" of sand added to my arena and am looking for a new drag to handle the ground correctly.

I know NOTHING so please, offer any and all advice you have! ??

Lucas Metal Works Ground Hog I think is what mine is. It has adjustable rippers followed by a different set, then a leveler and a roller/packer. It’s handy for many uses. It’s adjustsble so you can keep your ground level. I wouldn’t trade mine for any other drag.

ONCE YOU SEE THIS THING AT WORK ..
YOU WILL BE AMAZED ...
The last thing you want to do is rip your arena ... all you want is
a 3-4 inch cushion and making it level while filling in holes or
low spots ...

This thing is built for gravel roads or drives around barns .. it is
versatile to use for about anything involving dirt ... roundpens,
arenas etc ... it refreshes the top of gravel or any kind of dirt ..

AND IT IS CHEAP ...

PRICING .. I believe they have added a hydrolic unit to raise and lower the blades that have teeth on them and no rippers!! .. Look for ... maintainer ... in the left drop down scroll box ....http://www.jimfg.com/inventories
(copy and paste for prices $1000-1200 .. this link does not want to be alive .. lol)

and then click photos on their site and look at #53 black unit

http://www.jimfg.com/photos ... see the teeth on the Shruminator maintainer ..... and then a similar youtube video to get an idea how simple this thing is ..... https://youtu.be/H0RYsqcSoXk ...

ALSO .. keep in mind .. poop and shavings from cleaning stalls is going to be your daily challenge ... if you use your tractor bucket for the waste with this maintainer on the back of tractor .. you can go to a pasture poor spot or low spot and dump small clumps of your daily waste while at the same time spread it with the maintainer ... no more wheelbarrows or handling poop piles 2-3 times ...

Call J&I for video of this thing .... GOOD LUCK .. wished this thing was available 50 years ago .. I would be a younger man today ... laughing

The Blackwidow is by far the best one out there. The facility we use previously had a ground hog and the arena is SO much nicer since buying the widow.

My understanding is with sand you do not want to rip or "fluff," but rather level and pack. Sand fluffs on its own as it dries, which is why sand arenas need so much water for good traction. You can literally use an I beam, works great. We have a custom made square of 4" iron an arena guy had welded for us. Works great. Sand has the marvelous quality of being all season around here, we love our sand arena. Enjoy!

I have natural sand in my arena and leveling is the biggest thing I want in my drag.  The more water the better at my place, cuz the sand goes at least 8 feet deep and dries out fast.  I bought a drag from www.arenarakes.com and I love it.  Had it 6 or 7 years.

The drag queen has been good in all arena types. It also works to level and spread the dirt.

We looked at all kinds. Seriously almost EVERY ARENA DRAG. We were ready to put down quite a bit for one since we have such a large arena and plan to have events in the near future. Our ground is good, but had quite a few low spots. We ended up purchasing The Drag Queen, and absolutely love it! Within a month our pen was completely level and our ground keeps getting better and better. It's comparable to the black widow, but quite a bit cheaper.
