| What do you all recommend for a horse with seasonal allergies?
I have a horse that is sensitive to the dust or the super dry windy air were having right now. I've been noticing a repetition in his symptoms when we get this super dry dusty windy weather. He has a lot of nose snot, sneezes and coughs alot when riding. |

Location: my piece of paradise | I get hydroxyzine powder from my vet for my two with allergies. Give in their feed and they don't have any problems. |

Yep, they call it Lung Function now. I personally use it on any horses I leave in the corral from July-Aug. We get really dry and since it is WY the wind blows...a lot. I also have 2 customers that use the COPD on their dry cough horses, even if they aren't actually COPD diagnosed. |

Location: NE TX | I agree with inittowinit and TheDutchMan01. Wet everything you can to keep dust down if possible and try getting him on Hydroxyzine, Zyrtec compound, or I've used AniHist HA. First two will be more expensive and require a script from your vet or directly from your vet.
When I ride mine (she sneezes and snorts and hates the "lovely" NE TX yo-yo weather we've been having since January) I've been putting a little bit of Vicks in her nose to help open her nose a little and help her breathe and also giving about 20cc of Wind Aid about every 3rd ride to help make sure she stays opened up even when I am not riding her. It has really seemed to help her a lot.
You can also consult with your vet and see if he/she has any suggestions. There may be something he/she can think of that the rest of us can't and could rule out any issues such as an infection or something if he keeps getting a snotty nose.

I tried it all several years ago and my horse continued to get worse year after year until finally, with a little added stress, he was in full respiratory distress. I was told there was nothing more we could do. I began reading everything I could and found Dr. Schell and the Cur-Ost company. After answering all of my questions, he asked me to give his program 2 weeks. I'm not a big "supplement" user and was such a skeptic, and this was my last resort. In 2 weeks I had a horse who'd made big improvements and in a month I had a new horse. | For those that use the T.H.E. lung supplements, do you also see a need to use a nebulizer system? I'm still debating if buying one is worth the $800 or if I should try supplements...I know that a general antihistamine powder supplement doesn't do much for mine unfortunetly |

I just started the COPD Formula and have fed the allergy blend before. It’s too early to know if it’s done any good. I did see some improvement with the blend when I fed it a couple years ago.
In all honesty there is no cure it’s all about management. I have a nebulizer and it does help and is great to use before a run. Like I said...not a cure. Have you looked into Silver Horse care? They have some great affordable options. It’s what I have had for 3+ years and I’m happy with it.
My horse doesn’t do well on tri hist....he will stand in the stall and flare his sides. In all honesty flax seems to have helped the coughing more than anything. |

| We have a performance horse that has severe heaves. We've tried everything without much luck, other than turning him out in a 1200 acre pasture and forgetting about him. I brought him in for the winter and currently have him on Silverlining Herbs- immune support and respiratory support. So far he is doing amazing on it! I hope it continues to work so an 11 yr old girl can compete on him this summer. He's an amazing pole horse and needs to be teaching some little girl how to run poles. |

Location: Tennessee | My horse has developed coughing issues the last two years. I had him scoped and the vet put him on meds saying it was allergic bronchitis. The Dex and ventipulmin seemed to help but not knock it. Another round of Dex and Antihistamines didn't even seem to do anything. I put him back on the Equipulmin twice a day and have noticed his coughing is reduced about 95%! And it's natural and OTC. |

Location: Nebraska | My mare has seasonal allergies. She usually does pretty well on Smartpak's Smartbreathe during the spring and summer, when there's more pollen and dust in the air. |
