I will be gone for about 10 days later this month & a good friend is going to stay here during that time. Horse chores in the a.m. take about 10 min, at night about 20 including filling the water tank.  My one dog is here too - more house dog than anything, so needs fed 2x day & be sure water is out for her - & of course, letting her out to potty - & she loves to go out for chores too.  No stall cleaning or anything like that, very basic stuff.  I've asked her how much & she says "pay me whatever you want".  She also lives at her mom's otherwise & is REALLY glad to get out of there for a few days.  :)  She is welcome to eat anything that is here, do her laundry, etc - doesn't have to do any cleaning or anything for me.  Sooooo, what do you think is a fair amount to pay her??

When I am gone and have someone Ranch Sit for my place I pay on average $20 a day.

Just like you they can do laundry, eat what's here and think of my place as theirs. I have 3 horses, 4 dogs and 1 cat to take care of. Not a lot of work but worth the $20 a day I pay for the piece of mind that not only my place is taken care of but my critters as well!

I pay good help a lot, it is worth it to know my animals are properly being cared for.  I would pay a minimum of $20/25 per day.  I pay 60/day for 4 horses and 6 dogs.

We pay $20/day to have some one feed for us twice a day and fill water tanks when we are gone.  We either take the dogs with us or board them at the vet clinic when we can't take them with us ($30/day for two dogs) the person who feeds for us sometimes stays, sometimes doesn't, depends on her schedule with her regular job.   I don't know what is fair, she has been ok with that but I've always told her to let me know if she doesn't think that is enough.

I styed at a friends house for 2 weeks, (I ended up driving back and forth a lot because of my own animals needs), and took care of 2 show heifers, 3 dogs, a steer, an onery show bull and a horse with an abscessed  foot, (i.e. soaking every day, washing out, wrapping, etc.), morning and night.  All of their feed had to be weighed out and measured down to the 1/2 cup and just the barn animals took me about 1 hour at both feedings.  I cleaned the stalls out, fed four other bulls in a seperate pen, another horse for the first week, and checked their cows and ANOTHER pasture of bulls every day.  They paid me rather well for that, but not over the top because I knew what I was going into, they walked me through it well and  left an expo board of the feeding, fan and Procool schedule, etc.

So, that being said, with the small amount of time you're saying it will take, just base it off the amount of work you think it is and come to a reasonable amount, I'm sure it will be easily agreed upon, since this is sort of a "favor."  If you feel better, ask your "volunteer," first, but I didn't even ask and wasn't worried, had they only handed me a $50 for that 2 weeks I would've smiled, been glad to take it and done it again next year!  Anything for a friend :)

It really sounds like there is very minimal for her to do and she wants to get out of her mom's place for a while. If she is not driving I would think $15/day which would be a nice round $150 for the 10 days.

I was thinking in the $20/day range & sounds like most are saying close to that.  She actually was hoping I was going to rent this house & wanted to move in here herself, LOL!!  She had horses in her youth, but is not "up to date" but I trust her.  In case of emergency, my renter will be her most of that time (she usually does chores when I'm gone but will be gone off & on during the time I am gone too), & my ex is on the property too (in another house) & can help out too.
Thanks for all the ideas & keep 'em coming!!

We pay $50 a day for a live-in sitter 1-3 horses, 2 dogs and 2 cats.  It is worth it to us and the place is in better shape (cleaner) when we get home than when we left.  One dog is kind of psycho and only gets along with certain people!

We pay $20 per day, plus extra for their fuel since we live 20 miles out, & stock the fridge (beer and wine included). The house sitter is responsible for pitching hay to four horses, feeding my 2 indoor cats, and living at the house while I'm gone. My only rules are no "frisky business" on my bed.LOL

Our pet sitter charges $50 a day but she has a 25 min drive, she stays the night, feeds horses (basic very easy), cats, and exercises and feeds our 5 dogs. I think it's pretty reasonable considering the drive and staying the night with all 5 dogs! In your case since she is staying at your house getting away and easy chores I would say $30 a day would be just fine!

I usually pay 150-200 for my horses

for 10 days in your house I'd probably pay her 200-250. you can't pay too much for good help in my opinion.

I got paid around $200-300 for 7-10 days of work.  Mine included cleaning stalls (just 2), feeding horses, and feeding 6 goats and a cat.  These people lived way out in the country...so that was a pain but all in all, it's nice to help out and get some cash on the side and always be the person they call.

It sounds like she should probably pay you! It's a mini dude ranch kind of vacation. I think you could probably get away with $15 a day and $20 would be more then generous since it's kind of a  one time thing and you are friends. If it was a regular occurance and just an aquaintance then a bit more might be in order.
