He's a cutie. If the price is right, and you have time for a project, then give him a try.

Almost any horse can be a barrel horse but some are just built better than others. I owned the most ugly big headed sway backed butt ugly mare that ever existed. She was grade and looked like a train wreck as far as how she was put together. She won for me for 12 years without ever needing anything, just yearly shots and food and water. never needed any fancy supplements or chiro voodoo etc...That has been a lifetime ago and I have owned some nice put together top bloodline horses over the years and none of them have had the grit and staying power she had. I feel lucky to have owned her, I guess everyone passed over her because she was ugly but in the end she was better than any horse in our area. If you have the money and time to give the horse a try go for it ! Some of the best looking horses you can find are pukes so pretty is as pretty does!

Depends on what you want. He's got some nice qualities I look for in a barrel horse. The pictures aren't the best. Worth checking out.

I'm not particularly fond of the horse or his conformation.

Well, he's got a short back, but long underline. His neck is thin. He has the muscle line I like to see from the top of the butt all the way down.
As I say pictures are not the best, so don't know what his throatlatch is like and he might be a bit shorter in the neck than I like. No, he doesn't have a pretty head, but lots of time they will grow into their head as they age. And, I don't have a problem with an unattractive head if the other parts are there. If you are close and interested, then you can go see him in person. If he's not close, then you need a few more pictures. And, i would certainly try to negotiate the price down. LOL

For me whenever I'm looking at a horse I ride them (If trained) if they seem to be willing and give a lot try and heart no matter what you want to do with them then yes. Conformation really doesn't matter your horse doesn't have to be the prettiest horse out there to win a barrel competition it's the one with the fastest, smoothest, clean run who wins. I think if we're fed a little bit better feed and worked he'd be very pretty (He'd gain more muscle)and he'll grow maybe a bit more :)

you do not ride his head... that being said he has some nice qualities about him.  if he is not too narrow and he has a good strided trot(meaning he has a good reaching stride) I would give him a try for that price.  He seems to have good bone. If I was going to fault him his shoulders are a tad steep for me - but if he works more off his rear end  that should not be a problem. Also his neck is set a bit high -that being said he shouldn't get heavy in front end and trip on you either.  I have seen many good speed event horses with this exact same neck/head set.
Where you are located you probably are not going to get the price much cheaper for what he has had done with him.  if he doesn't work for you - put rides on him thru spring  and sell him as a trail horse - or maybe a roper would want him so start him on some cattle too if you can - just tracking. You could just make a good profit on him to go find something that will fit you if he doesnt.    Is he quiet and easy going?

Appears short in the pastern.  You'd sure want to ride him for a while.  He may ride like a lumberwagon.

He's not terrible. Pictures aren't great like everyone else has been saying but from what I can see, his neck is a little small. I also think that this butt is a little higher than the rest of him. He's kinda long in the back too. That might be an issue with barrels.

He isnt the prettiest, but you never know which horse has potential just by pictures. Maybe when he is slicked off and has some muscle built up he would look better. He doesnt have bad bone to him. I wouldnt give that much for an untained horse like this though. If you ride him and like him, and he is sound, I say give him a try

I would inquire about the 90 days training, but 40 rides.
