| Who has used this as a pre or post run rubdown? I know of some race horse trainers that use it and I'm curious. The kind I can buy is 99% DSMO would you dilute that? |

Location: the other T-town, Oklahoma | I do a mixture of 70% DMSO, 30% Voltaren Gel (horse version is Surpass) with about 8 oz of sterile water to help dilute it. It makes my Voltaren last longer. One of my horses that mixture is a little too "hot" she is more sensitive so I add an extra ounce or two of water to her bottle. I actually use mine a couple hours before I run, I use it on front legs from the knees down, hocks and stifles. A little bit goes a long ways. The DMSO I buy is the 99%. |

| The reaction between DMSO and water is extremely exothermic. You can cause burns to the skin if you are not careful.
Gloves should always be worn when applying DMSO. |

Location: Where ever there's sunshine! | I saw on the other post about using DMSO to wrap after a run or a work out. I like to pamper my fury children but I've never used DMSO for it. Any suggestions? |

So DMSO should not be mixed with water? And yes I agree about the gloves! |

I mix it with sterile water that I get at work, never had a reaction and I put it on without gloves. Never have had an issue. |

I mix it with sterile water that I get at work, never had a reaction and I put it on without gloves. Never have had an issue. Gloves should be worn because DMSO is a carcinogen.. and also DMSO is a penetrant/carrying agent, so anything mixed with it, it will penetrate/carry that substance down to the bone. So not only are you putting a carcinogen in your system, you are making your liver/kidneys process Volterin unnecessarily.

I have been around so much of it.. I only have to smell it, and I taste it for hours. There can be one horse out of 400 have DMSO on it, and I can smell it like I have an open bottle in my hand! It is aweful! |

just be careful, DMSO has beeen known to cause retinal detatchment in humas, this is why it removed as a human drug years ago.
