Location: Somewhere around here | Wooo!! Congrats on the new saddle ordering! I personally like a suede seat and jockey rough out but then my fenders smooth. I had rough out fender before and it always made my jeans roll up my legs, which I absolutely despise lol. |

Location: Here | I love my smooth out fenders. no more rough out for me. i learned years ago that rough equals ate up inseams. Good quality leather is actually has more stick than rough out |

| I have had both, and like the roughout better, especially if the seat is not suede. I feel more secure.
If the roughout wears out my pants it is 100-120 to replace my pants and I have never had this happen.
If I fall off priceless
Hence why I choose roughout |

Location: lone star state | I used to only ride slick seat saddles because I don't like the trapped feeling. As I have gotten older I thought I liked roughout to help stick, but my daughter recently purchased a very well made fully tooled very slick saddle. . It is so well balanced that I can ride it and not feel like I'm gona slide off/out of it. So it depends on the saddle horse and rider. Go ride several before you decide what works for you. Think about this, cutting saddles are usually slick and race saddles are never roughout.... |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | Slick fenders. They dont do anything to hold you in. I prefer anything besides suede seats. Ostrich is my favorite but it has to be real leather not the fake stuff. Fake stuff is slick.

| The used saddle I have now is basically all smooth. Tooled fenders, elephant seat, and the jockeys are so worn there's no grip left... Love it. It took me a while to get use to and I was using glycerine on my seat for a few runs to help me stick, but I love it now. MY PANTS DONT RIDE UP!!!! I was so unbelievably happy about this. I have scars on my legs from my pants riding up and my boots pinching.
New I would probably still get rough out jockeys, but I wouldn't be afraid to get a top grain seat and tooled fenders and I wouldn't pass on a nice saddle for being 100% tooled |

Ditto, except I would get roughout on the jockeys...don't care as much about the fenders.
I bought a used saddle that has a suede seat and roughout jockeys that had been worn smooth. After riding in it for a while, I took a wire brush to it and roughed it back up. Made a huge difference and helped me realize this is definitely my preference.

Location: Oklahoma | My next saddle will hopefully have tooled fenders. I cannot stand it when my jeans start riding up over my boot. I've never had a saddle that had tooled jockeys, so I can't comment on that.
I would suggest being open minded for an elephant seat. My saddle that I have now has a bicycle elephant seat and I love it. It's so durable considering I always throw everything over the seat (breastcollar, stirrups, cinches) and it has zero scratches. I plan to go full elephant seat whenever I can order my dream saddle. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | There is so many seats to choose from and I like the Elk, and I like my Jockeys to be rough out and my fenders tooled, but now my Caldwell is all slick with tooled fenders and I have no problem with that, I stick great in it, just depends what kind of leather you have on you're saddle. I have a Deb Sibley that is fully tooled and a bit to slick so I but the blackrock cond. on my jockeys and wow that helped alot. |
