Anyone feed them? Are they a small pellet? I want to add alfalfa pellets to my horses feed ration . I bought a bag from the feed store ..i believe they are bryant grain company... they are on the big side and ive found a bunch of whole corn and ground corn in the pellets. Plus my horse choked badly on them. I have access to standlee now and was just curious if they are any smaller or cleaner?

I love Standlee products! I've fed alfalfa pellets, alfalfa cubes, beet pulp shreds and beet pulp pellets. Always very consistent from bag to bag. The alfalfa pellets are small, and I've never found any extra "junk" in any bag. I love their cubes because they break apart easily and take very little time to soak.

Thank you. I tried soaking these pellets and it seemed to take forever to soften them up even in warm water. The corn bothered me the most.

All the products I've used don't take long at all to soak. You won't be disappointed!

They are a larger pellet.

As others have said, they don't take long to soak, especially in warm water. 10 minutes maybe? But definitely soak before feeding if you've had a horse bolt and choke on pellets before.

The higher fiber content a feed has the more it will expand when soaked.

I have been feeding them for almost a year. Large pellet, not as tightly packed together as some so it makes them easy to chew. And they are all alfalfa, nothing else added. I started feeding them because they are actually cheaper per bag and per pound for me than anything around here. Now, I won't switch to anything else.

I watched how Standlee products were made on Clinton Anderson's show on RFDTV and it was very very impressive. They are a great company that is very dedicated to providing the BEST product possible.

I use the Alfalfa/Timothy pellets.  I love them and so do the horses!  I soak them prior to feeding.  My horses will almost take  you down for the bucket with those pellets.  They smell so good, I'd almost eat them myself  - hahahahaha!

I use Standlee pellets and cubes. When I feed I have to holler at the dogs because the basset hound LOVES the alfalfa pellets. The pellets just fall apart after you soak them and I have a horse who just crams as much feed in his mouth as he can so he gets pellets and cubes to slow him down. It has worked really well for him.

They're definitely larger in pellet size compared to any pelleted feed I've fed, but they're not cattle cube size large by any means.  I really like them.  I always have a bag of them or the alfalfa/timothy cubes on hand  at all times and soak them at night so I can mix in other supplements my gelding might eat around with just his feed.  If I'm in a hurry I choose the pellets because they are a little bit quicker to soak compared to the cubes.  I have a bad habit of trying to break all the cubes down while they're soaking and the pellets are less to worry about, but I had rather my horse get the cubes since they're closer to the natural form of hay.

I have been feeding the Standlee alfalfa pellets for several years, but i have never once soaked them....i feed them to both my competition mares. I also mix their supplements with about a cup of rice bran and mix it in the pellets...they licks their bowls clean.

Thank you for all the responses. I picked up a few bags today. I hate having to soak anything. But after watching my gelding choke so badly on the other alfalfa pellets I am afraid not to! I did get his teeth done after that and he really wasnt that bad per the dentist. Maybe just a fluke deal but I dont want to take any chances. My other 2 eat them just fine dry.
