I worked so hard to find a saddle that fits my hard to fit horse. I rode in it finally aaaand I just can't. My last saddle (Marlene Mcrae Special Effx cactus) was a 15.5" seat which fit me pretty good. My thigh's were a little tighter than they're supposed to be, but my thighs are squishy globs so whatever. It was comfortable, I felt balanced in it. So anyway I got one of the new Meleta Browns, which only comes in a 15" seat (I was hoping with my bit of weight loss that it would work) and it is so small that riding faster than a walk is nearly impossible. And because it doesn't fit it stretches my hips all wrong and tilted my pelvis the wrong way. Extremely uncomfortable. Of course that's not the saddle's fault. My smaller sister fit in it perfectly and she rode beautifully in it. So now I need to start over. I was looking at the Martin's. I'm going to call them about the trial program. Anywho, does the seat on the FX3 run pretty true to size? What about the Crown C's? I'm hoping the 15.5" will work but if it runs small then it definitely will not. I know the Crown C is generally for "crotch riders" while the FX3 is for "back pocket riders" but I don't really know what I am...I come from a dressage background and there isn't much variation in sitting style. I like to be straight up and down with my feet beneath me. Very classically correct equation as that's what has been drilled into me since I was 6.

I bought a Josey Ultimate about a year ago. It has a 16 inch seat. It took a little getting used to because my saddles have been 15 inch seats. I love it now and the forward hung stirrups are the bomb. They keep your feet forward so well.

TBH I don't care for them that much. Comfy seat but I like my feet right underneath me. I'm pretty set on at least trying a Martin, I just am super curious if they run try to size before I potentially waste more time. My horse has big shoulders, big withers, and hollows behind those shoulders. He really needs a saddle that will let him develop some more back muscle. It's improved by still has a ways to go.

I come from the dressage back ground as well. I loved the old Martin Iron horse.......the newer ones I'm ok with . The Cervi is the best of the martin barrel saddles in my opinion. But I run in a Martin all around. It fits my high wide withered horse quite nicely. The seat is flatter than  the barrel saddle, no quick rise to the twist. It keeps my legs very under me, allows me room to move and is still deep enough to be comfortable at a flat out run. Mine is an older model. But the all around is kind of Martin's response to people who do more than barrels and don't want too dump 5k just in a barrel saddle that they wouldn't use for anything else.

My crown C runs true to size.. I hear if you get into the bigger gullets (like 9-9.5 and bigger) they run a half size large.

My gullet is an 8.5". I rode other brands in a 14" and this one is a 14", and works great. I suggest the demo program as they won't fit every horse out there.

Sounds like you might like the Crown C. They run true to size. In the really big gullets you may have to go up a half size but if the saddle has flat bars it gives you a little more room. With that being said I have ordered an FX3 10.5 gullet with flat bars in a 14" seat. I've ridden a 14" seat in varying crown c gullet widths and bar angles and it has always been just right. So I didn't really need to go up in size with gullet width. Anyway check with Martin to get a demo if you can. Good luck!

He JUST fits the 7" with massive flair on the Meleta, but he definitely needs some growth in his topline. I'm guessing he won't need a HUGE size so fingers crossed. The one thing that concerns me about the Crown C is that the website says "Shortened seat jockey (distance between the swell and cantle) gives the rider increased stability without hindering her freedom to stand up and sit down when necessary." I don't have a booty, I don't have a huge stomach, but thighs are my trouble spot. I'm wondering, since they're already pretty close in other 15.5" seats, it it would be worse in that. BUT I know Sherry is tall and I've heard the Crown C is good for tall riders (I'm 5'11). I'll probably just have to try one and find out, but I'm at work so can't call until my partner gets back. Sigh.

Since the Meleta Brown fits your horse.  I'd suck it up for a little while and ride it before I decided it absolutely wouldn't work.  Just to cruise around, it can't be that bad.  I ride a 14" and am ok in a 13" just to ride as long as I don't make a run.  You might find it's a perfect fit after you get into a bit better shape.

I own two Crowns. One is a 7 inch gullet and the other a 7.5, both are 15 inch seats. If you want to try one out just holler and we can meet somewhere:)

I want to suck it up but IT IS BAD. But I absolutely can not do him justice in this thing. Maybe if I were 50-75lbs smaller but not for a very long time.
