Location: mi | Has anyone tried the Don Orrell stirrups. I have been trying to justify getting the Nettles and I ran across these and they are just a bit less expensive if you want the slanted. |

We know Don's dad and brother well, and I talked extensively with his wife at the NCHA Futurity last December when his daddy (Jimmy Orrell) was getting his NCHA award. She explained the different type stirrups they make and how they're made and the woods, etc they use. I found it fascinating. Unfortunately I haven't purchased a pair yet, so I'm not of any use to answer how they ride. I will say they are one of the best families I've ever met though!! |

I can't remember how long she said Don had been making them; I should have been listening better but I was SO excited to be sitting there with the whole family while Mr Jimmy was being honored I was almost giddy! |

Location: Stephenville, TX | I have the Orell stirrups and absolutely love them. No more knee pain and I don't feel trapped like I do in the metal ones that come with most saddles. Mine are laquered cedar and were around 160.00 5 years ago. But oh so worth it. They have an a barrel racer type with built in tread that I want for my next pair. They would be great awards items engraved with lettering. |

Location: Arkansas | My friend has a pair (she's a cutter) and said she loves them; Don's dad gave them to her. Her husband then bought a pair because he liked them so well. I'm thinking they may be my "Merry Christmas to me" present this year!! |

Location: Southern Oregon | I actually recently bought a new set of Kroes stirrups. I was having a heck of a time with my hip and knees after some time off from having baby. I could barely walk after riding and these have helped a TON. My only complaint is that they are heavy and I always worry about them scratching my saddle when I'm putting away my saddles or tacking up. |

| the slanted nettles are actually cheaper priced than the slanted don orrell's I just checked on what I paid for our nettles. I have never heard of Don Orrell but maybe they are nicer, I don't know. My husband has the slanted and I have the half breed. I LOVE nettles. I can give you the name of the dealer I worked with - just pm me if interested. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | I didn't like the orell stirrups personally. I love my nettles. So much lighter and so far have held up better than the orell's. I had my Orell's for about 6 months before they started looking bad. Took me forever to sell them and I ended up trading them for a headstall or something... I don't even remember.... My Nettles still look new after a year. Plus you can resell them for about $100 all day every day if you ever had too. Lots of people like Nettles for the simple fact that they can "get rid" of them easier. |

Hummmm I am not sure how you got them cheaper. From what I am seeing Nettles doesn't actually make a slanted stirrup you order the leveler on any of their stirrups and that increases the cost by $65. so the basic 2" stirrup runs $170. I can get the nice finished stirrup slanted in the Orrell for $185 and for $15 its a much nicer looking stirrup. The Half breed in the nettles with the leveler is coming up at $265. |
