| When it comes to saddle fitting what does it mean when the saddle pops up in the back without saddle pad on.
To narrow? To wide?

Location: Rocky Mountains | It's a good thing you understand it's not a good fit. A few years ago I ran with a BAD saddle fit! Didn't know it at the time until someone confronted me. I now go to get my horses fitted by a professional. I have so many different saddles hanging around now lol. My recomendation would be to do the same. Now to answer your question I think it can go either way but I'm not a professional so don't take my word for it. |

I agree that the gullet or bars are too wide, in general when the saddle pops up in back. Could also mean you have too much rock in the tree. |

Location: Stuck in a cubicle having tropical thoughts | In my experience, when the back pops up, the saddle gullet is to wide. If you ride in one that is to wide, it compensates by sitting down low in the front and pushes on the shoulders and whithers. |

Location: Jersey Girl | Your saddle doesn't look like it is sitting down on his withers in the pictures, but obviously not fitting well because of the back end. Run your hand under the saddle. The saddle should have even contact points along the entire back. If there are gaps (places where the saddle doesn't sit on his back) the contact points become pressure spots and thats where it will sore your horse up. |

Location: Northern Ontario | It really dépends. If you say to yourself, "it would fit better if my horse had higher Withers" like mine, then usually, there is too much rock. If it pops up in the back because it just seems to wide and sits very low(no space between the Withers and gullet clearance)or the angles at the fron of the saddle don't match the angle of the shoulders, then it may be too wide. Hope this helps. Saddle fitting is aweful |

| It has been stressful. I've already sold that saddle but just seeing why that one didn't fit so I can try something else. I would contact someone but their isn't anyone close to me. |

Location: North texas | I feel your pain!! It is stressful. I am on waiting on my 9TH saddle for my horse. Out of desperation I am trying a Caldwell. My husband is going to kill me when our credit card bill gets here. Keeping my fingers crossed it will fit.
What does your horse look like without a saddle? |

Location: Bastrop, TX | Larry Coates has a good video on Utube regarding saddle fit. He goes in to detail about fitting the front and back but talks alot about ropers due to the pressure on them. Same principal. |

I just went thru the whole saddle fit thing with my horse. Took me 6 months to find a saddle that fit him that I liked how it rode. If I thought a saddle might work I would find a place that allows saddle returns. I ended up getting my saddle from Family Center Saddlery and Tack. They have a 14 day return policy on saddles. |

Location: TN | Sounds like it was too much rock in the bars or possibly too wide of a gullet. Most likely too much rock though. I had a 10" gullet regular bar Martin racer and it dropped down in front and popped up in back on my horse pretty bad. I switched to a 10.5" gullet flat bar (not as much rock) Martin FX3 and it sits perfectly level. |
