My vet wants me to use diclofenac topical on my horse's stifles on days he runs. She gave me a prescription yesterday and my pharmacy is out until Tuesday! I have a barrel race tomorrow. I am hoping she can mix up some DMSO/Lidocaine that I can paint on. But just in case, are there any other topicals that I can maybe pick up OTC? Thanks!

Hi Flitastic, I responded to your email about this but, I didn't get it until a moment ago. Just keep in mind that the Lidocaine/DMSO will not have the same type of effect as the surpass/voltaren. Different pathologies. And it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Good luck at the barrel race tomorrow!

Thanks not to mention my pharmacy wants 80.00 a tube but looks like a compounding pharmacy can make it for 10.00 a tube. So I have a call into my vet to see if she can call it in. I like those savings!! I used to be able to buy voltaren OTC from Canada but they shut that down! LOL I wish I had some canadian friends who could just get it and send it to me. I was getting it for 6.00 a tube online with free shipping few years ago.

go to a health food store and pick up a tube of Arnica cream. It is a natural anti-inflammatory

I haven't really researched it but I guess Cetyl M makes a topical. I had a customer come into the store asking if we carried. Only place I could find it was online.

Just curious...are you using it because your horse is already sore a bit or you are using for more of a prevention to keep it feeling good for the weekend? What kind of results do you get with it? I use Voltaren on myself but haven't used on my horses....maybe I should use it on them... Just wondering how people are using it if it is something I should start packing in the trailer.

I horse is sound. Vet suspects that he may have a sore spot only at RUNNING speeds and in a turn so we are using it on a couple of areas to see if there is improvement. If there is, then we know where to look deeper if we ever need to.

I've used it a lot on myself and horse and so far so good! I ordered 6 tubes from compounding place today for 60.00. But had to buy 1 tube from my doctor at 90.00 for 1 tube. Yuck.
