Autochek is supposedly more accurate than Carfax.

I work at a car lot and we don't even use carfax, because it's not accurate. Best advice get under the vehicle and really inspect it or take it to a shop to get checked over. Good luck :)

That was our experience with Carfax.

Does anyone have Autochek? The Carfax was clear.

Agree that Carfax is not accurate. My husband's truck had been severely wrecked, the frame itself had to be replaced. Never showed up on Carfax.

My husband is a mechanic, but having the Carfax would help to see if anything was reported, just to give us a heads up.

This car looks to have been sold to a dealer through an auction, which may be completely normal, just wondering why.

Just FYI, I purchased a truck out of state, ran the carfax and all that jazz..............well once it got here, you could obviously tell it had been wrecked and not reported.  Paint was two different tones and after market fenders hood and headlights......

I traded in my 2009 Pontiac G6 that was loaded and had 67000 miles. It was PRISTINE and had been garage kept and serviced regularly and they told me they were going to take it to an auction because it was over 30K miles. So just because it went through an auction doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. I'd just look it over really good. You can tell if they've been wrecked (usually) if you look it over well.

Good point. This is a 2009 with 159k. miles, so that may be the reason. Thanks for your post, DG.

That's too many miles for an average car dealer to keep and sell. My sister use to work for one of the biggest Saturn dealers in the country and cars with high miles were always sent to auction.

We run into inaccurate CarFax all the time. We had a truck in just the other day that had been reported as Silver from the time it was titled to the time it was wrecked which it was then reported as white. We thought it was a very good paint job until we pulled the build sheet. The truck had been white from the very beginning. We have also seen a miles discrepancy because a the miles had put into the system wrong when they had gotten an oil change.

90% of used cars are bought from auction. They are lease vehicles, rentals, or trade in. Some dealers are mainly new car stores and do not keep used cars. We are a new Chevy, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram store with almost 150 used cars on the lot. We are what we consider a used car store.
