For all those that make a living with their own business and can afford to barrel race every weekend, how do you do it?? What do you do and what kind of business do you have??

I think most on here that run a home based business are farmers/ranchers/trainers.   I have a massage therapy business, but I also teach HS.  There's no way with my current clientel I could quit teaching.

Many probably do and will comment when they see this.

To be fair it was posted after many have gone to bed.

I would assume those who have their own businesses are still hustling to run them this time of the morning, not browsing a message board.

We both work full time but also have a large garden and raise our own personal beef to help with grocery costs. We sold out of our bred cows due to calving being too tough with full time jobs, but we will likely raise grass calves next year. We spend the winter logging hedge posts to sell as well as use in our small fencing business (additional to the full time jobs). We've put most all extra money towards debt to free up cash from monthly payments.

We hustle our a**es off, basically.

You may not want to hear this but downsize to a managable number of horses. Haul locally. Decide about how much you can spend a month and try to stay within that amount. You may have to adjust what you feed but it can be done.

I have always wanted to go to equine dental school and do that on the side from my main job.... but the vet boards are getting so crazy now about it... Rightfully so I guess.

i run the office for our trucking company from home.
i agree, downsize & manage your money wisely.
i hit lots of local shows. i have my good horse i only run at arenas i know he will place at & take my young ones to smaller arena shows (smaller organizations) because they are cheaper to give them the experience they need to step up.

I am pretty downsized. I have a really good job and can afford to run 2-3 times per week, can afford the best care, etc. That's not necessarily the issue. It's the "scheduling".
I baryend/waitress. Love my job and make excellent money HOWEVER because I'm one of the "A team" I work Every. Single. Weekend. All of them. I am trying to be creative and brainstorm other ideas for consistant income. I had a very established cleanong business that I owned for over a decade. I am burmt out and dont want to do that again and in a towm of meth heads and such I refuse to hire people cause I don't want them representing my name and end up stealing from clients and what not. I also had a mobile tack business that was a good hobby and side business but did not bring in near the money that I would feel comfortable quitting my job.
So this is my struggle in a nutshell.
My dream is to have a food cart. But that is not something that will happen immediately.

My husband and I run cattle, he cowboys in the summer on a community pasture, I have a home based business and work part time (one day a week). My business allows for time flexibility which is exactly what our lifestyles needs.

If a home based business is something you want to do I'd suggest doing research into network marketing(search time leveraging) and how the industry has helped so many people. Also look into companies with products you would USE...there is no quick way to get success...just like barrel racing you have to put in the work.
PM me if you have any questions.....lots of barrel racers in my area do what I do for a business.

I agree with the above poster.... don't just jump into a home based biz without doing research on the products..comp plan.. company etc... sell something you love and use. Don't just do it to do it. I have a home based biz, work 3rd shift full time still and make very nice additional income from my side gig. It helps that my products sell themselves and have won awards. But lots of skin and hair care products would be great options as well I think.
