| We are looking at a 2006 Dodge Half ton Mega Cab 5.7L Hemi. Can you please tell me what you know about them? Itβs just a run around, travel vehicle that might possibly pull a 2 horse bumper pull if needed. Itβs got over 180K on it. Thanks |

Location: Oklahoma | I've never had a gas one. But them old dodge's you just cant hardly beat them in my opinion! I have a 6 speed 2001 3/4 ton diesel with a little over 350000 miles and it is still going strong! but my husband used to be a diesel mechanic and he takes care of ours. If taken care of right they can keep going over a million miles! I seen 2 personally! But I really want my next forever truck to be a duramax! I think I could get used to an automatic! lol |

Location: Oklahoma | Had one for 10 years. Same year, Dodge 5.7 Hemi gas, mega cab. Put 243,000 miles on it. Pulled a 2 horse trailer often. My husband took it to the northern states when he was pipelining. We just traded it off a couple of months ago and probaby should have kept it The only thing we EVER did to it was to replace a PVC? valve, small repair. He kept the oil changed regularly and used synthetic oil. It was the best truck, ever. |

| Be prepared for the Hemi to be a gas guzzler. Of course you can buy a lot of gas for what you have to pay for a diesel truck!! If you have time, keep shopping and watch for a 3/4 ton diesel. |

I agree! You will be at the gas pump ALL the time. I would also keep your eye out for a used 3/4 ton diesel. We run all diesels, we have 4 trucks. Last summer we sold a diesel F-350 that had a little over 450,000 miles on it. It was still running strong when we sold it. If it were me, I would save up a little more $ for a diesel. I think overall you would be happier. |

| I have an 08 1500 with the Hemi in it. I LOVE MY TRUCK. 203000 miles on it right now. I get 19-20 mph highway in it. About 14 pulling a trailer. I use mine as a daily driver and to pull my small trailer when needed. My husband keeps asking when Im going to trade it in. I say never. Its paid off and there is nothing wrong with it. |

Location: Smack Dab in the Middle | Not comparing apples to apples...but my daily driver is a 2015 1500 Crew Cab Ram with a Hemi and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I traded my Ford Edge (which I also loved) for it so that I could pull trailers and implements if need be, and haul feed and shavings home. Mine makes great mileage for a pickup--upwards of 24-25mpg hwy, around 18 in town--but it has ECO mode, where it drops down to 4 cylinders when it's not working. I think that's a newer model feature.
As far as pulling, it did an adequate job...dropped a lot in mileage when I was pulling, but handled my 2 horse aluminum BP just fine, except when the wind was howling. I did miss the stability of a longer bed (I just have the short box) when I pulled the trailer, but it was manageable. Just made me more aware of the trailers movement. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | Hubby has a 2013 Hemi. He got about 14 in town before we procharged it. We got about 22-24 in town since the motor doesn't have to work so hard to push the truck down the road after we procharged it. (Hubby drag races the truck now so it's completely track ready and can no longer pull the trailer so I can't vouch for fuel mileage now but when we were daily driving it we loved the mileage. We put helper bags on it when towing the bumper pull and made sure we didn't haul more than 2 horses. Hubby also pulle dhis motorcycle and dirtbike trailers with it.)
Info on truck when daily driving at 24 mpg: Ripp Pro Charger(found it half priced used on facebook), multiple other engine mods such as an upgraded cold air intake, 170 degree thermostat to make the truck run cooler, electric fan to cool the engine, Diablo programmer with custom Jay Greene Racing/Road Tune, Full 3" dual exhaust, 20" rims wrapped with 35 all terrain tires and premium gasoline with full synthetic motor oil. On smaller tires I'm sure we would have gotten even better mileage. Once we no longer needed the truck to haul the dirtbikes we made it track ready.
My point (sorry for the long story) : Small details like oil, gas, etc make HUGE differences in half ton Hemis. The new Hemi is an 8 speed transmission, the old one is a six speed. This also makes a big difference in fuel milegae and what mods you can do to make mileage better. |

| Thanks everyone! This info really helps us. Iβm keeping the V-10 for my gooseneck, and we would be using the Hemi more like a car - with the exception that we can haul things if need be. We drive on county roads to work and donβt really want another car. Itβs good to know that it should last a good, long while. |

Location: Arizona | I have a 2011 four door(megacab) 4x4 1500 Hemi....I love the roomy interior but good grief is the Hemi a sensitive motor..ugh. I get on the hwy maybe 16 mpg, we had to remove the MDS system (multi-displacement system) in ours which cost over $300. The V8 Hemi doesn't like to run as a V6 or less. It had an aweful shake to it. Then the head lights kept going out. It's not simple bulb replacement. We had to hard wire the headlights to make them work. There is no fuse or relay to these type of headlights, just crazy. These little things just drove me crazy. My 2002 chevy with 215k miles on it, starts up every time, no issues. I won't buy a dodge again. I will stick to Chevy. |

| I have a 2007 1500 hemi with 210,000 on it never had a problem with the 4/6/8 program. It still gets around 13/14 mileage city and around 16/18 on highway. Other than normal mat. ie. tires brakes alternator I just had to replace the cat. converter at 205,000. The only thing bad I can say about the truck I have replaced the fuel pump four times because of bad gas. It does not take much to block the in tank filter and bingo there goes the pump. |
