Location: NC | Those of you that have bought weanlings, how long after weaning did you haul them home?
This will be my first weanling, so looking for advice :) She'll be weaned hopefully beg of next week and im trying to figure out, at least, an estimate on when to have her picked up.

Location: South Georgia | Is she halter broke? Can she be handled? The one time I bought a weanling, I paid the breeder extra to have them work with the foal for a couple weeks before pick up. You want them also to be eating sufficiently on their own. |

| I picked mine up a few weeks after weaning. She was halter broke and had been handled. She hauled loose in the stud stall of my trailer just fine. |

Location: SW MO | We have hauled weanlings a lot. We haul them loose not tied & bed the floor of the trailer really well. If hauling a long distance they will lay down in the hay & often sleep. The main thing is making sure they are eating grain & hay really well since weaning. |

No shes not. She was supposed to be halter broke, but life happened with her breeder. Which is fine because she will be going to my trainer to get halter broke, and manners as soon as she gets here. (trainer not only barrel races but also does everything from halter breaking to starting) |

Both shippers ive contacted have box stalls for her. ( i dont trust my truck on a 13+ hour haul or i would just go get her myself) How long after weaning do you normally ship if they are eating good?
Thank you all about the hay/grain thing!! will make sure shes eating good from breeder. |

This is just wrong on the breeders part. A breeder IMHO should have their weanling halter broke, leading & mannered. I am a breeder & I feel my buyers deserve a well mannered weanling who has been halter broke & handled. I feel that is a breeders responsibility, but that is just me. I feel darn good when I have someone haul a weanling I have sold & the hauler says, this baby hauled better than a 3 year old I hauled. But then again, this is how I do my horse business. |

She was supposed to have gotten her halter broke but like i said life happened. Totally understanding about that because life has thrown me some curve balls. Plus at least I know who will be halter breaking her and I know itll be done right :) |

When I have bought a weanling they were up to date on every thing coggins included but if I were going to cross the state line with them I would pay for the health cert.
Never had a problem a breeder.  |

Edit cause I did have a problem one time with that one person,, so I kinda lied, I had forgotton about that one, untill now

Good to know! She’ll have to cross state lines to get home (mo to N.C.) so she def needs a health cert (which I have no issues paying for) unfortunately i do not trust my truck to do 13 hour one way trips so I will have to pay for a shipper. |
