I get the Red Earth DE and it has a few extra benefits over the regular DE. I get it at TSC as well. I only feed mine once a day.

DE does nothing to control internal parasites, if that is what you are feeding it for.

Common theory is that it cuts internal parasites, and they die. More likely they die of old age, while you are feeding it.

We get our DE from our local Nursery/feed store. Food grade 50lb sack runs about $30. I'm feeding it to help control flys

safe for an ulcer inclined horse??
it caused a systemic reaction in mine. both the food grade DE and the animal element. his body swelled up and legs looked like stumps. the only thing i could think of he had hindgut ulcers brewing. I strted treating him for the ulcers and he is not allowed anything with de in it anymore.

I think Red Earth just says on tablespoon a day? Maybe I'm wrong though...

I feed food grade, just a few ounces a day. Our horses look great. I have a mare that had ulcers, I made sure they were treated and gone before I fed it to her.

I used animal element after having a horse hair analysis run on my horse and it showed that he was not able to chelate excess toxic metals out of his system. The DE in the supplement helps aid in chelating these metals out of his system. I now use a personalized supplement from the vet that does the Horse Hair Analysis and it also has DE in it. I also have a friend that had metal poisoning and now takes DE everyday for it. I'm not sure about using it for for anything else though.

We feed it to our goats as it has been recommended for them. It has made a difference with the parasites. We had issues controlling it last summer in the goats and after starting them on DE, we have cut down on the other wormer greatly. Our vet had us deworming every 2 weeks and I was wanting to find another way so we weren't chemically deworming so often. Our Co-op guy said he used DE on his butcher hog and when he was butchered, there wasn't a worm one. That is what he told us. And another goat farm south of us swears by it for that as well. Horses may be different, I don't know but the websites for DE has testimonials from horse owners as well saying how they like it.
