So I'd love to plant some hanging baskets and hang them on my front porch. My only problem is the front porch is where my hubby and I grill out and sit all summer long and he is deathly allergic to wasp and bees...

So any idea what would be something I could plant and look pretty but not attract bees? Also try to keep in mind that my porch is a wrap around part facing the north and part facing the east. And being that I would need 6 baskets so kind of need to keep an budget too...

If you plant flowers the bees will come.  If you want baskets that won't attract a lot of bees use a lot of green foliage in them with a few flowers.  I'd put a wasp catcher nearby and keep a can of bee/wasp killer handy.  I LOVE my flowers and I put together at least 4 hanging baskets, 4 giant barrels, and 8 pots together every year.  The bees have not (knocking on wood here)bothered us - they are too entertained by pollinating flowers.  :)

Love my straw flowers, they seem not to attract bee's.

Wow Those straw flowers are beautiful!!!  I will have to look for those!

And as for the wasp catcher... i never knew that was such a thing!  i need one cuz we have wasps like crazy already!

I did do a few flowers last year and it was nice to see the humming birds but when the bees came my hubby kindof freaked out it they came anywhere near him...  can't say i blame him though!! just trying to make both of us happy this year!

Those are beautiful Louise, never had those before.  I am sooo ready for it to warm up enough at night so I can plant flowers.

Amber, Like you I am ready to be out and stay outside.  These little guys are fun.  I get them in all kinds of different colors.  They love HOT, but still do well here in the PNW.    An added bonus is you can pick them and dry them, and they look just like the picture!

I am going to have to look for some of those.  Never had them before.  I am really getting into the groove of riding and it flat poured last night.  I didn't get to ride (and that makes me pouty) AND I had to put friggin blankets on last night.  Glad I did because it rained hard all night and to top it off I was wondering if I had landed in Oz this morning with the way the wind was blowing.

We had that rain all day yesterday and today it is blowing.  SO hopefully it will help dry things out!
Hang in there, flowers and summer is just around the corner!

I believe mint is a natural repellant, especially peppermint. Maybe put one plant in each of the baskets?

We loved watching the birds nest in them in Kansas.   Plus with birds, no bees.

You could always go with some nice big ferns!! I love them at our house! and I just found a new plant that I LOVE! its called hens and chicks; its a succulent but it changes different shades of red and green depending on how much sun they get. super hardy plants that love bad soil and little water! THey would be more of a potted plant near the ground, but I thought I would share them!!
