| I have a gelding that I have had about 3 months now. The man I got him from said that they kept him on herbal remedies because he acts "goofy" on lasix. I kept him on the herbs but 2 weeks ago he bled anyway. This past weekend I tried lasix and he pitched a fit at the gate, then went in and tried to run up the fence, which he has never done in the time I have owned him. The ONLY thing I have changed in the lasix. Anyone else have this issue? What else can I try besides lasix and the herbs? He was fully vetted when I bought him, and I dont think its a pain issue since he just developed this in one week and hasnt been injured in the last week. I mean, I guess anything is possible but Im thinking its related to the lasix? Thanks for any input! |

Location: Louisiana | When did you give the lasix and how much? If T-Bo still has to pee he gets mad. He will not go once I get on, and won't go in front of anyone-he has to finish peeing before I saddle.
Otherwise I have an ill horse. He'll still make his run, but he's the type that will make a pattern no matter what. I'm thankful he tries hard, but sometimes it makes it hard to recognize pain issues.

Location: MS | Mine will just about go to sleep before he runs on 3 of lasix. He just can't tolerate it.
He won't clock and then he'll bleed anyway.
He's off for a year. Hopefully he'll come back without bleeding. |

Location: At the race track with Ah Dee Ohs | Some horses can't handle lasix. Not many, but I've seen a couple. Talk to your vet about something else you could try instead of the lasix. |

Location: Piedmont, OK | Mine was goofy on Ventipulmin and switched to lasix he was MUCH Better!!!! But do not ever use a chinese herb called Red Lung for bleeders. I swear it made him a lunatic!!! |

| I have struggled with bleeders - I found great results from Jackie Hagberg @ Equine Natural Care. 405-818-6510 is the work # I have for her. You can find her online at equinenaturalcare.com/
What about using http://flairstrips.com/ I have friends that have had great results with them.

Oh thanks lol. Mine just started Red Lung Monday after bleeding through his lasix Saturday night. I put him on it after he bled the first time 3 years ago and had a fire beathing dragon. My vet swears he's never had another horse do that and asked me to try it again, along with some other herbs he's had success with. I'm thinking T-Bo was still new to me back then and I was running him more and just didn't really know how to handle him. I so hope he doesn't act up this go around, especially since we're headed to Josey's at the end of the month! |

First I would put the horse on Vit K if he isnt on it already - vit k helps with clotting
Lasix can make some horses really hot, I give Kentucky Red 4 hours out and lasix 2-3 hours out - you may want to try this mixture and do less lasix and do lasix maybe 1-2 hours out, Some people can get away with just straight kentucky red
my horse will bleed thru straight lasix so I use this formula - I am trying to back off lasix

Location: Millen Ga | I have a mare that is a bleeder, I was told by the previous owner that she " doesnt run good on Lasix". I was told by someone else though that the previous owner told her I was crazy to not run her on lasix.... go figure. At any rate, I have had decent luck with herbs of the worlds bleeder program. Ive never tried her on lasix because I was told that she didnt run good on it, and figured the other was hear say. So I dont have any experience with the lasix part of it- but those herbs do seem to help her.

Location: Florida | Sorry, not wanting to high jack the post but for those who have used Kentucky Red can you elaborate. I have heard many mention it here on this site but everyone I speak with including Vet's are against it. I know nothing about it, and have a bad bleeder.

| A friend of mines mare used to go WONKY on lasix. Horrible gate issues and just wouldn't fire. When they didnt lasix her she went in without any sort of problem. So she put her mare on Lung Aid by Choice of Champions. She hasnt bled since and she has zero gate issues. |

Sorry, not wanting to high jack the post but for those who have used Kentucky Red can you elaborate. I have heard many mention it here on this site but everyone I speak with including Vet's are against it. I know nothing about it, and have a bad bleeder.

My horse would cough up blood after running (6-7cc lasix 3 hours out IV)
I was about to just give up and turn him out - I tried supplements/herbs/changed up dosage and timing - nothing would work
So I got a 2nd opinion from another vet - tried Kentucky Red with the lasix - he hasn't had a bleed since I started using it
I give it 4 hours out IV its good for 6 hours before it starts losing the effect per what my vet told me |
