| Little long but some humor... We get a call telling us that Dustin would be in Ft. Riley on Sunday at 5am... I plan to surprise him by bringing his brother and dad with. He suspects his dad but NO idea about Travis. I get a call telling me that because of daylight savings the boys would be in at 6am. (I guess the army doesn't realize that airlines take that into consideration when planning flight logs)
We get everyone together at midnight for the 4 hour drive, (we have figured in the time change) everyone is on time and we get on the road. One of our issues was the three of us were coming from different direction within Oklahoma. Our planning was critical as "dad's" phone would not have reception where he was all day, change of plans would of been impossible. All is great!
"NOT"
Halfway to our destination I get a call telling me the ceremony will be at 4:45am!! I'm like we'll never make it! I did talk to Dustin earlier in the evening and told him if they change the time again, if it's later no problem but, if earlier we may not make it.
I'm driving a little over the speed limit, not wanting to stop for driver change or pee... Pretty sure we still won't make it, but, dammit I'm gonna do my best!
THEN we get pulled over! I got my window down waiting for the officer, he knocks on the passenger window, we just about sh!t. (Travis and his dad are sleeping in the back they pretend not to wake up...) Cop proceeds to tell me my headlight is out and one of the license plate lights is too dim. While I'm handing him my papers I ask him to hurry up we are on a mission to get my son who just landed here from Kuwait. He actually does hurry. Then "dad's" GF askes the cop if he could give us an escort to Ft Riley!!... He said his captain wouldn't like being woke up at 3 am. I said "give me his number I'll call him!" We get back on the road get on base find the right place.
We see all these soldeirs standing around, I thought **** we missed it.
I ask one of the guys where to find my boy and they said "YOU'RE right on time go through that door... YAY I get in there they are just thanking our soldiers for thier service and salute and done. I'm looking for Dustin, I spot him and I can tell he's really not expecting us to be there... WAS so Great.... best hug this mom could get.
On a side note Travis is following me too the door and says to Dorthy (dad's gf), "I have NEVER seen my mom move that fast!" Is she running? Dorthy almost didn't make it she about fell over laughing! I'm not sure anyone has ever seen me RUN!
All is good I got my boy!
