My 5-Star pad is about seven years old and I have yet to wash it…. It's actually not that bad-- there's not a whole lot of hair buildup...but I think it's time. Do I just pressure wash it and then let it air dry on the fence? I'm so nervous I'm going to ruin it or make it different than what it is now LOL.   Someone reassure me!

No pressure washing, belive me I did that with a different old wool pad I had and not to good on the wool, LOL... I just get all the old hair off with a stiffer brush and hang the pad like the man did in the video and rinse and rinse and rinse untill I get all the salt and dirt off and the water runs clear, I have never used any soap I worry that I wont get it all out, so I just use water a liitle elbow grease and keep the pad in its natural shape while drying do not lay it upside down this will mess up the spine of the pad...
But thats a really good video

I had a lot of hair and sweat on mine too and had a hard time getting it as clean as i'd like.  Decided to start over with a new one and also bought their pad liner. LOVE IT. My pad still looks brand new.

Thanks for the video!! I have Woolite....not sure how I would apply it though? Might just stick to the sprayer and the hose...and by pressure washing I was visualizing me, the hose, and the sprayer lol not the car wash. But I guess that's where the pressure washing happens! Haha. I know to hang it normal to dry. This girl at the barn dries her pads with the pad open and I now that's terrible for the seams in the spine! Eeesh. I definitely would have payed it flat so THANK YOU for that video!!! :D

I've had good luck with my pads (not 5 star) using the EQ Solution on them.  I spay them and let it sit on there to break up the sweat and dirt then rinse off.

Here is a description for it.  I get it at Valley Vet  (valleyvet.com

This all-natural, foam-on, readily biodegradable wash for horses and other domestic animals requires no scrubbing. Just three easy steps and you’re done. Foam on, rinse, refoam and let dry. Your animal is clean in minutes. EQ Body Wash:
* Will not dry out skin or burn eyes.
* Is pH balanced, similar to the skin of most animals, which reduces skin irritation, damage to hair, and other reactions.
* Helps prevent fungus, girth itch, rain rot, and scratches. Why? By reapplying the foam and allowing it to dry without rinsing, the hair and skin will not only be softened and properly moisturized but the food sources for bacteria and pests will be removed, making your animal healthier.

I just use a garden hose and a rubber curry to clean them and hang them over a fence to dry.  Make sure you hang it just like it sits on the horse or it'll ruin the shape.  I never use soap.  I wash mine once a year and clean with the sponge each time before I ride.

My mom had a brand new 5 Star end up on the floor of the horse trailer during a rainstorm lol. So it got soaked, then my colt stomped it, peed on it, and pooped on it, all while stomping it all in during the trip. Then it sat for a few days like that.
She sprayed it down with "Awesome" cleaner- which I wouldn't really recommend but this was an extreme case-it's a very strong kitchen/bathroom type cleaner.
We took it to the car wash, hung it on the floor mat hooks and blasted it until the water ran clear. It took a few quarters haha. We kept turning it to get both sides. After it dried it barely shows the stains, it's the light gray color. As far as the "feel" of it, it's perfectly fine now. It didn't hurt the integrity of the wool at all.
So if hers survived, yours will be fine lol.
