Location: TN | Has anyone ever used Equibone? One of my horses has fusing hocks with the left being much further along in the process than the right. He gets too sore to run him without injections every few months so he's had a year off (it was getting too expensive!). Just wondering about trying Equibone to see if it would speed up the fusing process or at least make him more comfortable.
Anyone have any experience with Equibone? |

Location: TN | Thought y'all might want to see what TLC said when I asked them about using it for my horse.
"While we can't tell the body to even the rate of fusing difference between the two hocks, Equi-Bone will support the expediting of the process and should significantly improve the comfort within just a few weeks. Over the course of 5 months or so, hopefully the process is complete and you will be "out of the woods" so to speak.

| Have a friend who used this. Her horse's bladder filled up with a calcium sludge. When he would pass the crystals he would pee blood. He was in terrible pain. Vet had to go in and drain them from his bladder. I am sure all horses are different |

| I think that I used this for a o c d on a horse I had. I used it for 6 months and it was gone on xrays. though I don't think it help the fusing rate.. |

| I did! I actually posted the same question and then tried it. My horses hocks were sort of stuck at the same point for a couple months, it was almost like they had stopped fusing, he was definitely uncomfortable. He has been on equibone (the loading dose) for a good couple months and at the last appointment X-rays showed he had completely fused. Could it be a coincidence, I don't know, but it was totally worth a shot |

That's awesome!! Might be worth a try then. Did it seem to help his comfort level too? Did you change anything about his diet with it? Are you going to keep him on it for the 5 months that they suggest?
He was sound to run after about 7-8 weeks no previcox or bute etc. Within about 3 months he had completely finished fusing, it may have been earlier but I only got him X-rayed once a month, I am going ahead and finishing feeding out the bag. |

| And no I did not change anything, just added the equibone. I kept him kicked out to pasture the whole time he was fusing as well, |

Location: East Texas | I have tried teh equibone, but had much better luck with the OCD pellets especially for ones that are fusing. I had a mare with a really bad hock, she there was not much stability, within a 6 months its was 75 percent fused and a year it was all the way fused. |
