I thought I'd share our new house with you. We live in an old farm house that I love. I never wanted a new house I love my old one, but it has just got wore out. It's tired & it was going to cost $$$$$$ to fix it. So we finally decided it was time. We are building it right behind our old house & it will come down when the new is completed. I am very sad about the old house but very excited about the new one. We are doing a metal with concrete floor, shop in one end. Open floor. When the contractors get done with the outside we are finishing it our selves. We have ran in to some big snags though. They sent the wrong color for the roof so we have been waiting on it 3 weeks now, but that is a good thing I guess because my husband broke 7 ribs and so that is giving him time to heal. I have begin to think someone is telling we don't need a new house. But we are very thankful things could be worse for sure.

that is going to be beautiful!  We live in a metal house, but it is one plain rectangle - not even a covered porch, yet, but when you walk in, it's not what you think - and so many possibilities.  We love it!

Sounds and looks like you're building my dream home! But those old farmhouses are so special as well, I can imagine the pain of having to let it go. Looks like it's going to be amazing , keep us updated with the progress!

Congratulations on the new house! It’s going to be beautiful! I understand about the farmhouse- I love old houses as well but there is a lot to be said for new wiring. . . and new plumbing. . .

How exciting!!!
I am sure you are sad to see the old house go. If you can, before the house is demolished, save some wood from the door frames, or the knobs from the doors, handles from the cabinets, etc. Put the old hardware in parts of your new home and I think you'll be happy you did. Use the old door frame wood for picture frames.
And remember to take a picture of the old house before tearing it down. You'll be happy you did. We aren't in love with structures but with the memories that reside in those structures.
Hugs to you!

A new home is so exciting!! We just sold our river house for a home on family land - so we are about to start the process....

When my granparents built their new home - they kept a window and had a local artist paint the old house on the window panes. It's really a great way to remember as well as a piece of art. All of us grandkids got a window out of the old house, I just haven't decided what to do with mine yet.

Totally agree--maybe use one of the doors as a sliding "barn door" on your bedroom??

We are going to use some of the wood out of the old house in the new. My husband is going build me an island out of the big timber that supports the center of the house if it's still any good. We are going to heat with a pellet stove so he is going to line the wall behind it with bricks from the old chimney.
