My gelding has a halter horse back with just enough wither to keep the saddle from rolling. The only thing I've been able to fit to him is a bob marshall treeless...and I hate it!! I'm fairly boney and just cant wrap my head around how thats comfortable to him. What saddles have minimal rock to them? I'm okay with having to shim one if need be.

How does the PCS flat bar saddle compare to the Caldwell ProMax?  I tried a PM on my mare and it had way too much rock.

Cactus CJ has been the best fit so far but it rocks a bit right over the spot where she has kissing spine, that has to hurt.  My chiro says I need to get someone to build me a saddle out of a couple of 2x4s, lol, she is that flat.

My boy has practically no withers and is a porkchop lol (very round, wide back). Martin Saddlery helped me find the perfect fitting saddle for him (Crown C with 8" gullet). I shim it, but it works great! Absolutely no roll and he seems quite comfortable in it (plus I like how it rides too!).

What about Lisa Lockhart saddles? I've never had one but read that they're good for broad backed horses.

If I can find the time and extra funds to haul him to a saddle fitter I will, but I'm not sure thats going to happen right now.

Just call Martin, explain your problem and they can get you in touch with Brian Peterson who can walk you through the process of fitting a saddle. You'll probably need to send pictures of your horse from specific angles and try out a demo saddle they'll send you. It's not as easy as having them do it for you, but it works.

I dont have any of those available to me right this moment. I was able to match the bob marshall with a pad that made it more bareable for the time being though

I would look at the Charmayne James Cactus. I have one right now that I am having to sell because the bars are just too flat and wide. The only horse I can picture it fitting would be built like a barrel.

Find you a well made kids or ladies roping saddle with full qh gullet, open bars and a full skirt, use a hair pad, mohair roping cinch, snug fitting roping breast collar with tugs attached in the saddle Dees or even the cinch rings; snug up your rear cinch ....
all of these things gives you more saddle area to control and stabilize your saddle front to rear and side to side without confining any movement of your horse ....

You may have to go to some youth/ladie ropings to see one of these saddles to actually see the setup ... very seldom do you see one for sale ...

All of the above are needed in horses that have true mutton withers in order to keep the saddle in place .... the poor design of barrel saddles does not offer you any options to secure your saddle to this type of horses back ...

Once you see the stability of my suggestions you can order you a roping saddle with the seat, swells, horn, fenders and cantle to fit you the way you would like it to .... ...

GOOD LUCK ...
