I know I have been having a LoT of questions on saddles lately, but way to learn is to ask questions. I was wondering if anyone rides a coats saddle and what y'all think of them. I am still on my quest for knowledge. Please tell me what you like about the. What kind of horse they fit and if you normall prefer a deeper seat or a flatter seat.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!     I have three different barrel saddles with 3 different trees.  And my husband and I have 3 coats roping saddles too!
If you send pictures of your horse without a saddle and then with your current saddle along with your current saddles measurements Larry will tell you "you need this tree....".   And his saddles set you down where you want to be!  i've gotten in other saddles and feel like i'm "up" on my horse and I didn't like that feeling at all.  Plus, if you have a problem, they fix it!  Mine have been right.  but a friend had one that ended up not fitting like she wanted it to  and they fixed it!   My 2 kids also have coats saddles and they ride so good in them.  I know a person has to be a good rider to be a "good" rider, but having the saddle to help you do it makes so much difference!

I love my Coats! He makes the Coats originals and the Lazy L, which I think are more of a factory saddle, but are cheaper.

I have an original- definitely the best made/highest quality saddle that I've ever owned.    Like Sonja said, he has different trees, mine fits a wider horse. Its very comfortable...I would definitely own another, if I could afford it! :-)

Had a custom coats original on a flex tree . Loved the seat very comfortable but unfortunately didn't fit my horse so I sent it back .

I believe the flex tree is made with less "flare".  so if you have a thick horse that is thick all the way (front to back) they are good.  if your horse has the bigger wider withers or is short backed and widens towards the flank, then you would not want a flex tree.  For example, my stud is short backed and wider at the shoulder area.  He is ridden in Larry's #10 tree.
You should take some pictures, email them to coats and then call and visit!  never hurts to visit!

Went out there yesterday and had him fitted and ordered one. He did a combo of two differ trees. I am excited for my horse, but still a little nervous about not liking how it rides. I talked to Numerous saddle makers and they would say "well be looks like a ...." Would fit him and if it doesn't we will make it right. Did not feel like waiting 6 months to get a saddle that may or may not fit him just to have to have it fixed. So decided to bring him directly to Larry and see wih my own eyes the tree on his back etc. would have loved to have had a caldwell or PcS saddle but was not worth the gamble at this point.

You can't go wrong with a Coats. Larry will make sure that you and your horse are happy.

I have a lazy l and love it. Larry guarantees them as he does his originals. I emailed him and I couldn't afford an original but could afford a lazy l. The people that make the lazy l were trained by Larry. They are high quality as well. Whether you get an original or Lazy L you would likely be happy....Even the Lazy L saddles are not "pumped out" one after the other like some other brands. This tells me there is more time and attention paid to making them. I don't believe you will find multiple Coats or Lazy L saddles sitting on racks in stores. To me this says quality over quantity.

I have had 4 of the originals and love everyone of them.  And they have fit every horse I used them on.  Larry is wonderful to work with.

I. Am so glad to be getting good feedback about Coats! I was a little nervous but felt it was my best option since he could physically try trees on him and not rely on pictured. The one I ordered is in the plain side with lots of roughout but it looks cool.

Amazing saddles! I'd suggest if you have the chance have larry fit your horse. He has different trees but he's very helpful and saddles are awsome!
Lazy L are cheaper and I'm NOT impressed with them.

I tried a Coats once.  It didn't fit my horse at all.  But it was an impressively made saddle.

I loved mine too! I was at Waco at a race and had the Martin dealer check it...Sherry Cervi was there doing free saddle seminars with him and they asked anyone who wanted to go by their booth to get their saddle fits checked. The man there said mine fit perfect and that I didnt need a Martin. lol! Then it didnt fit the next horse I bought so I sold it. Kicked myself ever since!
