| I'm just curious if those of you who travel to different states often, get health certificates every month? A friend and I were just talking about going on trail ride in Kansas this weekend (we live in Missouri), but it looks like we would technically need to get a HC to be legal. I have one on my mare from a few weeks ago, but it's for Iowa. It seems like there would be a lot of hauling to the vet if you wanted to do much traveling throughout the year! |

| Ugh. Don't even get me started on health papers. Thanks to the VS outbreak here in CO, we were having to get them as little as 48 hours out to 10 days depending on the different rules. I spent a small fortune on them and rarely were they checked. NE was the worst state as far as their regulations went because they required the vet to call and get a permit number. While they seem to be rarely checked, it simply isn't worth the risk of the fines if you don't have them. |

Location: White Mountains of AZ | I recently went up to Vegas for a rodeo. I had my Coggins and HC. No one ever even asked to see them...but, like the other post, it is not worth the fine if you don't have one! |

I found this website: https://www.usrider.org/EquestrianMotorPlan.html
It doesn't look like any of the states that participate in the passport program are close to MO! Like SKM said, it looks like several states are a real pain in the butt to transport to. |

That's a handy website to have for each state! Thanks. |

| HC are a pain. I have been sent back to the state I just left to get a HC. I get the coggins and HC have only been checked once. I usually say I am going on thru and the horses are not getting out of the trailer, works so far. I got stopped in NM on my way to TX with an empty trailer. They asked me for the paperwork, I was like hmm no horses in the trailer. I was asked what are you hauling in the trailer, i said, "Sailboat fuel!!" I was on my way to pickup bred mares. Turns out they were looking for stolen horses. |

Location: WI | I live in WI, about 20 miles from the MN border and I never have HC's unless the event I'm going to requires them. Most of the races I go to are in MN. Looking at the website someone posted above, I see that HC are exempt in MN for horses entering for exhibitions or trail rides. Guess that's my story and I'm sticking to it!! I would have to buy one every month - and haul my horse into the clinic to do it! Which is in MN, lol. |

Location: MD | We are in MD. Everywhere I have been since I've been here has at least wanted to see UTD coggins. about 70% of the places I've been to here has req a health certificate. They are valid for 30 days, and for one trip. it's annoying, tedious, and 45 bucks a horse. It sucks, and the fact that I have pulled my horses up to the office and they didn't even want them off the trailer to pull a temp really bothered me.

Location: Louisiana | I remember being a kid and someone was at every barrel race checking coggins. Now, I can't tell you the last time they were checked... Oh, wait I can! When I went to Josey two years ago they ask to see coggins and a 30 day HC. Reminds me I need to call the vet since we are going back to the Thanksgiving clinic this year. We travel to MS all the time and don't worry about it. Now I know going to FL you better have all your ducks in a row. |

| DRESS WARM! I've only gotten papers when going to a bigger race where they state on the entry that they are required - and the ONLY one that has EVER checked as been the OKC Shootout, but yes, it would suck to not have them and get caught. Mine here in Kansas have only been for 30 days - I've never gotten one that was good for 6 months. I think they are a total waste and a rip off - I mean, your horse could be fine the day the papers were issued and sick the next! |

your right, they are good for 30 days. I just recently gotten paperwork for a mare I sold for out of state sale. I think it's stupid to have them done unless hauling out of state frequently. Coggins always get done on my horses |

Location: Midwest | I always get them done if I plan on hauling out of state. IN just requires a coggins to go to an even in IN if you are a resident.
When I travel elsewhere, I get the HC. Personally, my vet and I both feel they are a waste.
The only time I have ever had my papers checked was hauling into IBRA Nationals this year, but I follow the rules just in case. |
