Will it be safe to just mix pelleted alfalfa into pelleted grain? I've always fed loose alfalfa and now I have to switch since purina isn't making it anymore. Trying to find alfalfa the isn't baled and doesn't need water.

I feed a pelleted alfalfa grain like I would a regular feed. My horses have fattened up and slicked out on it.

I feed Standlee Alfalfa pellets and have had no issues. Been feeding them for a couple of years in lieu of baled alfalfa. They are cleaner and more consistent. My horses love them.

Yep, you can give the the mixed alfalfa and timothy pellets thus dropping the high protein content. They get so pretty and shiny.

Depends on your area, but I think they were $13.99 last time I was in Tractor Supply. I mix my own feed and use the Standlee pellets in it. I haven't had any trouble with them and my horses look great.

Do I need to be careful going from straight alfalfa to alfalfa/timothy mix?

We had one choke on them so they get watered down now.

I don't do it gradually, but I only feed about half a small bucket in the evening to mix supplements into.  I always add a little bit of water because I am afraid of them choking, but it doesn't take very long for them to get a little bit soggier.   I pay around $14/bag for the Standlee products.

Yes you can. I have for years. I recently tried chaffehay and like it a lot. Have you ever tried it?

I feed the Standlee Alfalfa/Timothy mix and a pelleted feed.  I wet down the pellets before feeding.  Supplements my hay that we bale ourselves.  Horses love it and they look great and are running great as well.

This. My three year old colt will choke if I don't soak it. He eats fast.

My horse gets a scoop of alfalfa pellets every day. The only thing I add are his supplements (most of which are pelleted). It's what he got before I bought him so kept with it. I will also note he's an exceptionally slow careful eater so I don't worry about him choking.
