Location: Somewhere around here | I was wasting some time on Pinterest yesterday and I saw this picture of Stingray, all cute and whatnot, and I was studying her saddle and saddle pad. I know that Martins are famous for being a wider fit on horses and I noticed how her saddle dips in the front, the saddle isn't exactly 180 degrees level. I was always taught that your saddle should be level on a horse (unless your horse is swaybacked, has high withers, or extremely built downhill) but we all know Sheri loves her horses and conditions them to be 5 star athletes so I highly doubt that he saddle doesn't fit Stingray.
My question is, if you saddle does fit your horse but your saddle dips down in the front, does it still fit your horse even though it looks just a little "off"?

Location: Somewhere around here | Idk but to me it looks like the saddle is closer to the leather on the saddle pad in the front (right by the off billet) and I feel like it might be 1/2 and inch difference from where the back cinch is. |

| my Sheri Cervi Martin saddle fits exactly like that too. it is raised a little in the back end when it is tight but i have never had any soreness issues from it. the way i figure is it levels out when you sit in it but is going to pop up a little in the back when there is no weight on top and the cinch is tight.

Location: Illinois | I was always taught the same as you, the saddle should be level when just sitting on the horse and stay level after it is cinched up. It does look like her saddle is dipping down in the front and to me that means the gullet is to wide on her. But that's just my opinion. |

| I have never been able to tell if a saddle fits just by looking.
If you guys can do that, that is amazing.
I have always had to feel under the saddle to ensure I have even pressure throughout.
One other thing to think of is maybe Sheri wasn't riding her and she was just saddled for pictures therefore she didn't shim the saddle. |

Location: NC | I wondered about this too. I have a seen a lot of people with saddles piping up a little n the back at shows. I have a friend who several of her saddles do but they don't seem to bother her horses at all. And I go though tons of saddles trying to make sure they fit down perfect and run into dry spots or the saddling sliding back. >/ |

I agree, Looks like it's just not shimmed. Hard to tell by that picture. |

Location: ND | You cannot tell if a saddle fits by simply looking at it, let alone looking at it in pictures. You have to feel for accurate fit. The Crown C's fit different than most people are used to as they are placed behind the shoulder & more on the horses back than his withers. They are also typically shimmed & she does not have the shims in place in this picture. |

| It is tipping forward. She just didn't put the shims in. Maybe is was a quick pic for the camera and she didn't shim. I have a crown C and they should sit level. If you see her ride she always shims. |

Location: Somewhere around here | I just watched a few rounds of this years barrel racing at the NFR, just to make sure she was still shimming her saddle and you're all correct. I didn't think she still was but opps, guess I was wrong lol. Ok, the picture does make more sense now with her saddle dipping forward. |

| I just found this thread because I was searching if my sheri cervi saddle tipped other people forward in when rating in for their turns. I have been having issues falling forward in my turns and thought maybe just getting older and didn't have the core i use to. Question, why does she shim her saddle? seems like it should fit right without this. Now I question if my saddle is contributing to this falling forward. anyone else experience this with the Martin saddle |

Crown c's philosophy is they make the gullet for the widest part of the horse, which is generally behind the wither, so you may need to shim the wither area to get proper contact throughout the entire saddle.
If your saddle is tipping forward, you may have too much rock in the bars, and you may need to go to a flat bar, which Martin does offer on custom saddles.

Location: North Dakota | It does look a little wide in that picture. My guess is maybe she'd already taken the shim off or hadn't put it on yet when that photo was taken. I've watched her videos and she seems to know what the heck she's talking about (makes sense to me anyway). |

Location: Alabama | She doesn't have her shim on, she shims stingray because she's wider in the back than the front.
With out the shim filling the extra space it will sit forward. she probably just threw it on for a photo op. |
