What do you use for ulcer maintenance that contains omneprazole? That won't break the bank? :

It doesn't contain omeprosol but I used UGard for years. I have a young horse that is headed to the trainers that is sensitive to her environment and I will probably send some UGard with her. I have had good success with it.

Oxy Ulcer has a natural replacement for omeprazole. It isn't good to use actual omeprazole all the time. Oxy Ulcer works great. I use it every time I run.

I have also heard and read omeprazole is bad for daily use for maintenance. I am trying SmartDigest by smartpak. I have heard good things about it. 2 weeks in, good so far. Kept apetite ect. I treated with gastrogard first.

Nothing is good to use long term
To actually treat ulcers I have used omeprazole done 30-60 day treatment depending on horses symptoms.
A well balanced diet low NSC, high fat, roughage 24/7.
For my ulcer prone horses I use omeprazole day of for single days, omeprazole hauling day days away from home and the return day of overnight trips

I use THE performance with ulcer care. My mare hasn't had a flair up in over 2 years.

I've only used THE GastroPLUS. I try and get on it right away if I suspect anything or if I am giving meds and they are in a stressful environment so a 32 dose bag has worked for me. I know some of the people that get it from me use it all summer long on the horses they haul constantly, some just start dosing a few days before/during and after a haul and love it. Since it is made of natural ingredients, it works wonderful to give as needed.

I'm trying Gastrotech...a feed supplier recomended it but I liked Smartgut Ultra, its just a little expensive. We always give omeprazol on the day of races.

For treatment/hauling I use Ulcerguard.
It was expensive but I got a discount from where I work to buy it by the box so I always have it on hand for hauling/shows. I have heard great things about THE Products and have used the ITZ paste from a generous BB on here who was willing to share a tube. ITZ is a probiotic but I'm sure all their products are made with the same quality as the ITZ tube. My Gelding didn't spit it out which is a miracle in itself.
I use Formula 707 Gastro Essential Pellet as a maint.
My boy is picky with how supplements taste and wont eat a paste or liquid most of the time... But I find he will eat the pellets since they can hide in his hay pellets he gets as a feed and as long as I don't run out he is fine on it.
Good luck with your Horse.

You treat with 2.28 grams of omeprazole per day for 30 days.
