Tell me about them mentally, trainability, turning styles, and what type of mares they seem to cross best with. Looking to breed a bigger cow bred mare.

I have no experience with Darkelly. Sorry.

ASOF - I've had the pleasure to ride 2 that were out of an extremely well bred cow mare. (full sibs) I loved them.  Both were well built, strong movers, cowy as heck, and trainable.  I didn't have a problem turning either one.  However, they both had real nice foundations put on them with cows and big pasture riding.  I wouldn't hesistate to breed to ASOF with a cowbred mare - they both sold easily with hefty price tags on them.  I'd buy one in an instant if I was looking.

Good Luck!

I am a big Darkelly fan.  Have been before he went to the breeding shed.  Don't see where you could go wrong with either of them.

Hey TP what is it that you like about Darkelly?  I'm having a hard time seeing the value in a $3000 stud fee.

There is alot of things I like about him. Mostly his color. LOL j/k.  SI 110....graded stakes winner. I love how low set his hocks are and is over all a nicely made horse to really add length of stride while keeping great turnability with those low set hocks.I like his pedigree alot and he is out of a Shawne Bug daughter thats out of a Meritable daughter. I had a Meritable daughter years ago and she was a VERY nice horse.  He is sireing some really nice horses! Although I should have toyed with him last year when he was $1500. lol. I just dont personally know any by him to know what they are actually like. The mare we are wanting to breed is very well bred, very balanced and pretty mare. Alot of talent,,,,,,,,, can be pretty quirky. Things to improve are the want for speed. She can really run, is wicked down the fence on a cow. Just doesnt see a huge point in putting all that speed on the barrels.

I bet it is because he has the one big winner and several others. BUT with that said, I think stallion owners are too quick to jump that stud fee up. FG was more than reasonable for years and years and years considering what he was siring and the $ value of his offspring. I am still shocked he is at $6k now when Tres Seis was there right off the bat. Are they both worth it? Probably, as people are paying it, but to breed to TS from the start has been hard on the small time breeder, where with FG for years you could breed to him for $3k and have a baby the next year worth 4x that. That is still a big fee,  but 1/2 of TS. Just my humble opinion and using those 2 JUST as an example

I have never looked at his stud fee really.  But that horse ran in Oklahoma/Texas and I had the pleasure of having him in our barn for a period of time. He was very laid back and a sweetheart for a stud.  Great mind, put together well.  And he's nicely bred.

I have been around quite a few ASOF and I really like them, good minded and nice horses to train. My favorites were out of cowbred mares. I don't know much about Darkelly.

ASOF on cow bred does very good. Scamper Cole has a ASOF outta a straight cow mare that can be a BAD cat. I saw him stop and eat lunch behind his second barrel at Ft. Smith and still make it back to finals!

We have a daughter of Darkelly who ran exceptionally well on the track - she was just turned out after that and is going to be a broodmare for us but she is very easy to be around and really, really nice to look at.
