Just started 2 of my horses on it. How soon does a person see effects from it? I'm giving the 3rd shot of the 28 day loading dose today. Is it a more gradual thing or instant or none at all?

If there is damage, it will take time to heal.  How long depends on the damage.  It is great to administer with time off to heal.

Within 48 hrs the hyaluronic acid (HA) nearly doubles in the synovial fluid, the increase lasts for at least 96 hours.

Where did you get it and if Ya don't mind me asking, how much was it?

My results show up in my performance times.

Once administered to a gelding with a hock injury, swelling halved itself within 48 hours after no change in weeks, so I know it does something in there.

With adequan? Are you sure your not getting it confused with Legend? I have never heard of adequan causing HA increases after injection. Adequan targets the cartledge within a joint. Each injection has a pretty immediate anti inflammatory effect but it takes about 30 days for the drug to really take effect in the joint. Thus the 28 day dosing. And it's true, if you can rest the horse it will allow the drug to really heal.

Yup, Adequan. I asked my Vet and that is what she said, so when you questioned it, I went their website, it says the same thing.

You asked about price and I'd have to look but it wouldn't be accurate. My vet gave it to me at a very reduced amount (of course I'd also done 5 teeth floats that day so....) Anyways we are trying it on
Pony: Severe arthritis in the ankle/fetlock joint. I doubt she will be completely sound but we are going to see if we get any improvement
Horse: needs hock injections about every 6 months. Hoping to eliminate some of those since getting through the scar tissue is hard to do (old injury)

So I guess I just wondered how long until a person saw any improvement. The pony is on rest, just a short walk now and then. The horse is still exercising but not currently competing.

Pre race doesn't have adequan. They have products that they promote as being similar but they do not have it. Cheapest adequan I have found is valley vet.

I do the load up a bit different than what manufacturer suggests.   I now do once a week for a month as load up,  then do every 3 weeks for maintenance instead of once a month.   Works out to same amount over the course of summer,  yet seems to keep a more constant level.  I was feeling that 30 days was too long in between and horses were showing stiffness.

So did you see immediate results or was it more gradual

My vet told me that studies suggest doing the loading dose every 6 months / not loading dose followed by monthly doses.

agree.. the fluid goes directly to the joint to help with in that time..and to reduce inflammation.... but the result longterm will be gradual..full effect.. repair, maintain....

Luitpold says studies have shown that two hours after the first injection of Adequan beneficial levels are present for up to 96 hours or 4 days.  To achieve maximum benefit of blocking cartilage destruction and stimulating joint repair processes, make sure your horse receives the entire seven doses.

I was told that manufacturer suggests every 4 days for 7 times so that you see immediate results.   Every horse in our trailer receives Adequan,  I feel it is the same as putting oil in your car.
