Location: Texas | My son (that does live here but comes over about 5 days a week) was told by a doctor today that he has ringworm. The only cat that he is around is our shop cat, not that he handles her much. If she has ringworm, it looks like my other son and I would be the infected ones. His family does have a small indoor dog. What do I look for? And how do I treat it? |

Location: The South | Any of the creams for Athlete's Foot will treat it. Just be consistent and it will go away, no biggie
ETA: Yep what Flit said! Any of the vaginal creams that end in "azole" (miconazole, etc) will work as well.

Any antifungal will do. Tinactin works well. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | any critter or person could have spread it to him. On animals it is often in a circle shape and they are missing a patch of hair. I have had it twice. Once as a kid from our barn cats and in college from a horse. |

| Cats can be carriers and not have any symptoms. There is an oral medication the vet can prescribe for the cat.
If the cat isn't treated he will continue to infect people, my girlfriend had this happen her husband had ringworm on the face it was brutal.
Toothpaste actually gets rid of ringworm well on people |

| I looked like I had the plague one yr. I had it under my boobs and it would not go away. I was recommended lotrim AF and to use selsun blue medicated as a body wash. Best stuff ever cleared up pretty quick and I had had some prescription stuff also. Didn't effect it at all. |

Location: Florida | I got it on my ankles and don't have cats. I got the cream from the doctor (it was only $10 per large tube with insurance) and it really helped, but more stops popped up. So I went to what we used as kids: Genitan <sp> violet. It stains purple so it is not for everyone but I am not wearing shorts any time soon. That stopped it in its tracks. BTW I don't have cats either, but the neighborhood is infested with feral cats. |

We use crest floride toothpaste on cattle and ourselves. Any toothpaste will work as long as it has floride. Works good. Also- OTC anti-fungals work. |

| I got it from working in an animal shelter, a veterinary hospital, and swimming in someone's pond/stock tank last summer. Use any athlete's foot cream or vaginal yeast cream and it should clear up in about 10-14 days.
A fun (or not so fun) fact about ringworm is that it glows under a black light. If you have one of these around (if you have teenagers you probably have a black light somewhere) put the spot or your cat under the light and see where it glows.
* Do not apply athlete's foot cream to your dog or cat on spots that they might lick unless you put the "cone of shame" on them prior to applying. |

Location: Central Texas | The doctor can give you a pill prescription, it's the easiest way to clear it up. Take the pills for the prescribed time and it's gone. The OTC will sometimes help but not always, especially if it spreads to your head/hair area. I got it once, I think from a used saddle I purchased. I tried the OTC and they didn't clear it up. Went to the doctor, got the prescription and it was gone very quickly. |

Location: lost in missouri | Ringworm is a misnomer, it is not caused by a worm it is a fungal infection of the skin. you dont always get it from animals either. It lives in soil. Generally the best over the counter cure is ointment used to cure athletes foot. |
