We waste a lot of food at our house and despite my efforts, it seems to continue! Any advice? We try and buy a lot of fruits and veggies and don't eat much meat at all. The problem is we are constantly home then gone, it's only the two of us and I don't have time to go to the store all the time so I usually go once a week. My husband's schedule varies so much so often times he's only home 2 nights a week for dinner...

I used to have a real hard time with this too. I don't know if you all like to buy a variety of different fresh foods but if I do, I end up wasting it and letting it go bad. Maybe just buy a few fresh things you KNOW you'll use for that week and don't get a whole lot, just enough. Make sure you have meals definitely planned so you know you're going to use it, and try meal prepping and cutting up everything when you get it so it's more "attractive"/ easy to grab and eat for lunches and such!

I'll go to the store occasionally on my lunch breaks.  It's just me and hubby -I do lots of veggies and a bit of fruit.  I try to only buy for 3-4 days at a time so it won't go bad.

I seem to waste a lot of fruit.  I'm doing the 21 Day Fix and meal prepping has been key!!!  I still don't know how to preserve the fruits though.  Strawberries seem to go bad if I cut them up, or if I leave them whole.  I peel and cut in half bananas and freeze them for my morning shakes.  I try and make a casserole or one-pot dish that will  make a lot of servings to get us through the week for dinners/lunch.

I am interested in these ideas too! We waste way too much food at my house mostly because I don't get around to cooking it in time.

These are all great ideas. I think I need to put more prep/planning into things! I always have good intentions.. seems I only cook about 2x a week so I need to just plan for 1-2 meals..

With fruits that freeze well, I like to slice them up and freeze in lkttle zip lock bags. I usually won't leave them longer than a week-week and a half, but I like to do one big shopping trip every two weeks, so that'll pretty well get me through.

I'll also make double batches of one pot meals that I know we all like, and freeze the extra to pull out the next week.

My biggest problem is I forget to freeze our meat before it goes bad. Ugh.

So I do meal prepping for fitness and I will tell you this, you need to set up a menu for the week. Only buy the exact amounts of what you need for those dishes and nothing more. I take 4 hours out of my day on Sunday or Monday to prep ALL my food for the week. That's 6 meals for me and about 2 different meals for the husband for the whole week. That's about 56 meals. I spend about 100-150$ a week depending on what I buy. If I go out of town, I pack a cooler with ice and load up my meals. It is very do-able, but you need to prepare and plan ahead. If you are looking for healthy good food go to bodybuilding.com or rippedrecipes.com. I follow a plan of 160P 150C 55F.

My head is spinning just reading this.  That is awesome!

I do not like to cook, not at all.  I wish I did. Now eating..... love the heck out of that!

This is why I buy so little at a time.....especially in the summer we often skip dinner. wheat thins/cheese.  I have grand plans of a healthy meal, but I wind up outdoors as soon as I get off work and don't come indoors until 11ish.  I try to just keep enough around for 2 dinners at any point in time.

have any of you tried Dave ramseys - emeals that he talks about on his radio program.
you put in how many you are feeding and it brings  up the weeks menu which you pick what type of meals you are interested in.

I haven't done yet - but looking at a sampl menu  (which also gives you the grocery list) is very nice,

We are real good about utilizing the food we buy for the first meal...
Leftovers are a DIFFERENT story.

There are 2 of us and it just seems like anytime we cook anything it lasts for a week.
Who wants to eat the same thing for 3/4/5 days? Bleh.

I don't have any advice but just know you are not the only food waster on this site.

We used to struggle with this bad and only shopped 1 to 2x a month..
Now we shop 1x a week.. I meal plan and prep
Nights we are late getting in etc... we eat cereal, leftovers or wraps. I would use to just cook a whole meal or we would grab something in town.
My biggest tip would be to start planning meals or prep some on the weekends.

How do the people who travel constantly rodeoing stay thin and eat healthy?  Think about those who are gone all the time up and down the road, flying to and from rodeos, eating on the go, etc.  How do they do it?
